make it happen

I'm planning on selling my house in another year or two, so I've been noting various projects that I want to do in the meantime. The two big ones are refinishing my hardwood floors and replacing some windows. This spring when I took down the plastic from my bedroom windows I realized they were covered in mold. Those windows suck and the plastic ( Read more... )

Sometimes I read your posts and realize what an adult you are. HAHAHA. And that's not to mean I thought that you weren't in the past, but man, you have got your shit together, girl.

Do you want to stay in the same area you are now? I loved your neighborhood - it's so cute! But you definitely will need some more space.

BTW, how's Lucy doing? :)

Ha! The girls have forced me to become very organized so that when I have any free time, I can be productive with it. The fact that we are a bit squished in this house spurs me on as well. =)

eta: Also, I watch a lot of HGTV and that channel is all about changes to make so your house sells faster. I'm probably on staging overload at this point!

Just last night I was driving to the mall to run an errand and thinking how much I LOVE my neighborhood. If I could stay on my same street I absolutely would. The houses that back up to the golf course are bigger with two car garages. If the right one goes up for sale, I would definitely jump on it.

Lucy has her moments. I had her groomed and shaved a few months ago and her mood improved amazingly. Not so anxious, plus so much less shedding. I think she probably needs to go to doggy daycare one day a week, but I'm not sure how we would accomplish that right now.

If you don't mind me asking, what's the ballpark amount for replacing all your windows? I'd love to get the windows in my parents' house replaced, but I wouldn't even know how to guess at a price for that kind of thing. Figured I'd ask you to get an idea, even though I know it'd be different without a deal on labor and whatnot.

My brother told me the windows I'm looking at are around $300 each. If I had to guess, I would say of the total cost, 50% is windows and 50% is labor. Luckily, I get my labor for cheap. =)

There are obviously much more expensive windows out there. Mine are more energy efficient than the ones I currently have, but not the ones that qualify for the tax credit (those are quite expensive apparently).

For me that'd be $3600-$4000 for the windows in my house. Not too bad I guess. Especially considering the old ones are horrible! All chipping paint and crappy screens and the storm windows are so annoying. I'd love to have them get new ones. I'll have to mention it and see if that's in our price range. It really doesn't seem that bad.

Like I said, that's just for the windows. If you know someone who can install them and haul away the old ones, that will definitely keep your costs down. If not, double that price to be safe. Also, I'll have to stain and varnish the windows myself.
