Poll #3

I just have to say, as much as I love London and all it has to offer, my most recent visit proved to me that I truly am, and always will be, a rural goth.

Weekly Opinion Poll #3: Where do you find new music/clothing/goth accoutrements? For me it's all about the internet. Sure, I can find the occasional Siouxsie shirt at Hot Topic, and I did manage ( Read more... )

i find my goth findings in some of the most random places nearby. ross has a rather awesome selections at times when it comes to punk or goth inspired shirts (for guys and girls), or maybe it's a normal item that could be twisted into something fashionably abnormal. i saw the most darling black skirt there the other day but didn't get it cause the material was a tad see through. : ( i dream about fitting into some of the clothes at hot topic once more, and sometimes search in vain for something suiting (and affordable) at torrid nowadays. the internet, however, is a wonderful playground filled with more dreams and bookmarks where i promise to visit again when i have the money and/or need to buy something there. lately it's been all bout finding some baby onsies; from one site i got the idea of printing off my own images to iron on blank suits and from another we may just go ahead and get something ( ... )

I also do the "do I really need it?" walk-away-and-see-if-I-remember-it test. I find that method to be particularly effective, save for the couple of times I've returned and what I wanted is no longer there! But then I suppose it was not meant for me.

You are definitely one of the friends I get new music from. Thank you, by the by, for the Rosebuds, I think they're quite excellent. :)

I find some things online in all the usual places, but I tend to avoid too much overt consumerism when I can. I make a lot of my own clothes, which is as easy as using standard patterns with non-standard fabrics.

And as for music, I learn about new bands from listening to Pandora, which is online streaming music utilizing the music Genome project. I think due to some rights issues, it can't be played outside the US, but don't quote me on that. Anyway, it takes that principle of "if you like this, you might also like that" and plays it for you like a radio station without an annoying DJ. I also learn about bands I'd not heard of via Goth.net's forums, where I'm an admin, and we have various people from around the world as members, always suggesting something I probably wouldn't have found on my own.

For me, it's about a 50/50 split. I make about half of my clothes (keeping the local fabric store confused about why I might need "halloween fabric" in, say, May) and what I cannot make, I buy online.

For a while a friend of mine worked at a fabric store, and she kept me in spooky fabric for quite some time. Those were good times. ;)

I'm always impressed with people who can make their own corsets! I bought some nice platform boots from Amazon for $75 once, and being unisex they ran quite high in size. Of course they didn't fit perfectly, as I have some sizable calf muscles, but a littel tweaking with some fabric inserts, and they work just fine. :)

I'm pretty low-key in appearance, but for music and stuff: EBAY

Ah yes, the temptress that is Ebay. I've spent hours just browsing on there!
