Weekly Opinion Poll #6: What music are you listening to lately?I bought the new Cure album, and I could say I was disappointed, but honestly I wasn't expecting much from it anyway. I've not thoroughly enjoyed a new Cure album in many years, and I feel like instead of trying

I've re-discovered and fell in love with Pandora and Last FM, so there are a lot of people I've listened to and liked, but haven't paid attention to enough to remember names yet.

In my car, I'm currently listening to Amanda Palmer's solo CD. Before that was the Repo! soundtrack.

My newest music discovery is Bat For Lashes. I really, really want their second album to come out!

Modest Mouse is the weirdest and most evil band I've ever heard. Really absorb the lyrics. Listen past the monocle and mustache style presentation of proper 40's sounding music. Hear beyond the constant flux of punk/folk/rock/funk/jazz/bluegrass/country/goth/new wave sounds and see the messages. Every song is about someone dying or getting totally fucked over- sometimes both.

It's amazing.

There's also always Portishead, aphex twin, Deftones, Massive Attack, boards of canada, Bauhaus, nine inch nails, Depeche Mode, She Wants Revenge, Throbbing Gristle, Queens of the Stone Age, and Skinny Puppy. As for folk bands, Andrew Jackson Jihad and Ghost Mice are unbelievable.

hmmm. I miss u guys:-) I can't say I'm listening to anything really. We're discouraged from wearing headphones/earbuds in common space (since I live at a retreat center) and I don't listen to a lot of music at home these days. My computer is slow and I don't own a CD player, even though I own hundreds of CDs.

Maybe it's the drag queen in me but I absolutely idolize Amy Winehouse. I know she's not Goth. I've got Siouxsie and Switchblade and Cocteau twins and This Mortal Coil too, just I've been listening to all of that since '85 and there just isn't anything new I'mexcited about.

Amy is a mess. She's beautiful and covered in tattoos. I heart her.

I knew that the Cure were coming out with something. Honestly, over the years I have grown disenchanted by their music. I have fallen in love with the music of Cassettes Won't Listen. He is a one-man-band from Brooklyn, NY. His music stirs me like much of the stuff from the 80s. Also, I've been listening to Lykke Li, a Swedish songwriter with a knack for great hooks, and quirky videos.
