One of the side notes to this. I'm sure it partially depends on your location in the country and job as well, but in the past 10 years I've seen a different side to this. More often than not I've seen other women attacking "Feminists" than men. Maybe it's the circles I end up hanging around in the church, school, and work... but this has been the case for me. It saddens me to see this happen.
Oh, yes - I never said that the bad reactions were confined only to men. The "submissive Christian" women are particularly vehement about this, but there's a lot of women who just feel threatened by feminists, often because they've chosen to stay at home and take on traditional roles, or want to do that and would if they had a choice
( ... )
Oh, I've watched that pay scale thing happen all over the place still.
Unfortunately, the feminist movement got hijacked for a while by some of the really vocal minority who aren't so much for equal rights and abilities, but are there primarily as "male-haters". The ones who basically are "You aren't a feminist unless you want men crushed under your high heels." The movement as a whole has pulled away from those women and we have some really good examples and role models now in government whom I applaud.
Right now some of the craziest women I have seen are the Republican/Tea Party women who are rooting for having their own rights taken away. I've seen comments from many of them saying "We should be barefoot in the kitchen." Fine, go do that yourself, but don't you dare try to take away the progress made for my daughter. Them there's fightin' words!
And those are the ones that even I will call "feminazis." They do more harm to the cause of equality than the frothing-at-the-mouth fundamentalist preachers, because at least people can see that the preachers are trying to hold onto their own power by pushing down women. Those so-called "feminists" are to the cause of equal rights what Westboro Baptist is to Christianity.
Tell me about it! If you want to be submissive to your husband, if you want your father (or legislators) to decide whether or not you can use birth control or have an abortion, knock yourself out. But like my daddy always said, "your right to swing your fist stops at the end of my nose." Go be happy Susie Homemaker on your own time, and keep your mitts off my right to make health care decisions!
