Working on this paper about radical mensturation and the pure evil that are dioxins in mainstream tampons is a lot harder when you have a Tampax Pearl shoved up your vag. :/
I've been contemplating the divacup too. I have a friend who uses it and really likes it! At the same time though, I have a really irregular period, so it's nice to just be able to keep some tampons in my bag and use them whenever my period decides to show up. I bought some organic ones, but I still have to use up my regular old bleached Tampax.
This weirds some gals out, I know, but have you ever heard of sea sponge tampons?: http://www.seapearls.co.uk/
I read like...one article about everything in tampons and got all freaked out. I bought some Mediterranean silk sponges at the sponge docks in Tampa, FL and used them a few times before my cycle got slightly out of tune and I didn't need them ;) They worked amazingly and I really didn't mind washing them out. I figure women did it for hundreds of years before me...so it can't be too crazy of an idea as long as you sanitize them properly.
I've heard of sea sponges before! One of my concerns though is about the waters that they harvest them from. The ocean is so ridiculously polluted now that there has to be some toxins lurking in those puppies (unless they are harvested in some sort of farm situation, I guess?).
I used to use cloth pads religiously, so washing them out wouldn't gross me out. I'm gonna do some more research on them, thanks for the link!
