Time To Say Goodbye?

Well, this looks to be my last summer in Metro-Detroit, possibly Michigan. My dad's plant is closing, so his job is gone effective sometime in the next few months, maybe a bit more. He's been looking to transfer in the company since he's got 20+ years at TRW, and the retirement benefits increase substantially when you break a certain threshold. ( Read more... )

That sucks big time Ross. When does your Dad's plant close? I'd still come visit you... I wouldn't want to lose an awesome friend just because your parents have to move...

There are some people, such as you, that I would put forth the effort to visit and stay in touch with, even if I were living in Alaska.

They don't know much. I was told today that there's a chance he'll be hired on to close the plant he's in now, prepping it for demolition, then be transferred to the 26 Mile plant. It's all about who wants him more now....

He has a job at the current plant until possibly next February, but nothing is guarenteed about it, thus this whole job shopping. Only thing is that if he accepts one of the offers (Portland, Nashville) he'd have to start within a few weeks, and the offers aren't going to stay on the table for too long...

No matter what they do, I'm not too sure how I'm going to spend my summers after this one, whether it be renting my own place, getting an internship that would pay for housing, or getting something local while living with my parents.

I can only wait and see how it all unfolds.
