studies in Texas, which is an abstinence-only education state, not only does it not appear to be working, but they also have a higher teen pregnancy rate than most other states.
Yeah, my Mom works in the Mother/Baby unit in Ennis, which has the highest teen pregnancy rate in Texas, and believe me when I say I've heard all the horror stories. But, besides that, my Mom has always trusted me to make the right decision, and coming from a very small-ass town in Texas, I have no plans on breeding with any of the mutants there, and I honestly believe that I'm not yet emotionally mature enough for a proper, committed relationship, let alone sex.
Hey, I demand that you come up here and get your village idiot. He's in that big white house on Pennsylvania Ave. Stop letting him loose like that, he's annoying all of us. ^_^
And I feel you on the whole not wanting to breed with the locals. Where I was in PA, it was mostly upper-middle-class white boys who pretended they grew up in the Philly ghetto. Some of them even claimed the 'man was keeping them down.' You have to keep reminding them that mostly likely, their father is the man. Dumb asses.

Have you ever seen Footloose? Well, you know that was "based" on a true story, right? I went to high school in the town it was based on. (They took a lot of liberties with the story, but there really is a city law about dancing.) The moral majority in this town thought that having a prom with *gasp* dancing would lead to sex and babies. So, you can imagine that we had NO sex ed class. It's been 14 years since I graduated, but I still don't think they have one. So, I'm not sure which is worse, abstinence ed or none. I have a nine-year-old daughter. I shudder to think about having that talk with her. (And for those who think she's old enough, you don't know my daughter. Definitely not ready for that talk.)
Personally, I think AOE is a waste of time and resources. ALl abstinance ed basically is is someone saying "Sex is bad, don't do it. If you do it, you will die or get pregnant. The end." Parents can do that in five minutes, so why even bother spending money on it?
LOL......I recall a certain "Miracle of Life" video that to this day has been the reason for me never wanting to procreate (that, and my desire not to unleash whatever horror a child of mine would likely bring upon the earth) Abstinence-only is a silly way to try and control the sexual activity of teenagers. And it always amuses me to hear that such ignorant people only think those "rebellious children with the strange clothes, and gays, and people who can read and stuff..." partake in premarital sex, then try so hard to muzzle the sex drives of their kids.
Yeah, that's fucked up. They try to muzzle the sex drive of their kids, but eventually, the kid is either going to break free and rebel dangerously, or grow up repressed and lacking vital knowledge about their own bodies.
Absolutely. I wish kids wouldn't open their legs at every opportunity, but it's none of my business what they do on their own free time. As long as they're not doing it in my yard, fine. But yeah, only telling kids sex before marriage is right, that's just...messed up. To me, that seems like it might cause some guilt conflicts in the kid. If the kid feels like he's going to get in deep shit for having sex before marriage, what are the chances that he/she is going to ask for help finding birth control from his parents? Parents need to yank their heads out of their asses and actually support their kids and help them make the right choices in their life, not force choices on them.
Totally agree...:) What are you doing nowadays? No rants for who knows how long...:( /me sad No fics either /me getting sadder if that's possible. No fair neglecting eager audience...;-)
It's easy. When religion is allowed to dictate what goes on in a state instutition (I.E. Public school). Now, private schools, you obviously can't help that much, since they can pretty much do whatever the hell they want. Parents are paying to send their kids there and it's right that they have a say. The kids who don't have that option are stuck in public school
