Ah, John Watson. In ur life, fucking with ur preconceived notions.

Personally, I believe this is what really caught Sherlock's attention. Before John was 'potential flatmate' and now? Something new. Must keep.

His pause and uncertainty when John praises him coupled with the quote from canon saying only talent can recognise genius make this my belief too. Sherlock sees something different in John and as he doesn't run for the hills he's worth testing and observing.
