Chapter 1 Chapter 2 Chapter 3 Love Into Drunkenness
Chapter 4
Ueda woke up by the sound of his cell phone. He had received a text from Kame saying that their reunion was one hour early than planned. The boxer then realized that he was still on Ryo's couch, only that a cover was on him. Ueda smiled as he got on his legs and headed toward the kitchen.
Ryo was there, preparing breakfast. Ueda surprised himself by thinking how he never saw how cute that man could be.
"Good morning." said tiredly Ueda, making jump Ryo in the process.
"Good morning. I can't believe you fell asleep at the movie you choose."
Ueda half smiled. "Sorry. I was more tired than I thought."
"Whatever." said Ryo but he could hear that the man wasn't really mad.
The boxer still felt bad. He never thought he would fall asleep. It had been several night since he hadn't be able to sleep and one night in Ryo's apartment, in front of a movie and he had slept like a baby.
"Anyway," said Ryo, interrupting Ueda's thoughts, "here's breakfast. At what time do you start working?"
Ueda said a small "Itadakimasu" and took a bite to finally respond "10."
"Then you should get going, it's 8:30." To that, Ueda froze.
"Damn! I just received a text from Kame telling that the reunion is an hour early! I have to go!"
Ueda took all the rest that was in the plate in one gulp and ran to the door.
"Thanks Nishikido! See you soon." and with that, Ueda was gone, living a dumbstruck Ryo who was asking himself how someone can eat that fast.
Ueda arrived 15 minutes late to the reunion to finally discover he wasn't the last.
"Where is Jin and Kame?" asked Ueda.
Everyone shrugged.
"But Kame send us the text." replied Ueda.
"Probably Jin's fault." said Koki. “You know, it’s like their honeymoon so they’re lovey-dovey all night long.”
Ueda couldn’t help but to feel his heart in pain.
“You should know about it, Tatsuya, stop acting like a baby.” He thought.
“Sorry, we’re late.” Everyone turned their head to see an embarrass Kame and a grinning Jin.
“Whatever, we can start the reunion now.” said the manager.
The reunion passed smoothly and hours later, everyone was ready to go to each one’s occupations.
“Ne, Tacchan,” said Taguchi, before Ueda had the chance to escape, “Why are you still in yesterday’s clothes?”
Ueda froze. From all the members, he hadn’t expected Taguchi to realize.
“I didn’t sleep home last night.” He responded, trying to keep his cool.
“Tacchan, are you seeing someone?” asked Nakamaru, who had heard the started of the conversation.
Ueda sighed. “No, Yucchi. If I was, I would have told you.”
“Not sure.” responded Nakamaru. Ueda was about to retort but the older man talked first: “You’re not telling me anything those days! I know you’re not the type to tell your problems but I can’t help to worry. You don’t say anything, you just smile on of those fake smiles thinking we can’t see it but we can, Tatsuya! We know. We know something is wrong with you and all we want is to help.”
Ueda had his head low. He didn’t know what to say. He was surprised that the other members had seen so much in his play.
“I guess I’m just a bad actor.” He said, still looking down.
“Tacchan, please just tell us what’s wrong.” said softly Nakamaru.
Ueda was unsure. He wanted to say something. Anything. But he couldn’t find the words. He didn’t know what to say. When he finally raised his head to say something, he wasn’t sure what yet, he remarked that all the members were there, waiting for a respond. And he saw their eyes. Those eyes full of worry and the boxer couldn’t stand them.
“I’m sorry… but I’ll be alright.” He murmured. He tried to then escape but Kamenashi had been faster. He took Ueda’s wrist before the boxer could move.
“Tacchan, what are you trying to escape from?” the younger man said softly.
The worry in his voice, the worry in his eyes, the worry in Jin’s eyes, he couldn’t stand it. He didn’t deserve it. He couldn’t handle it.
“STOP IT!” he screamed but soon regretted it. He was cracking under the pressure. He didn’t want to snap at them. He didn’t want his friends to be worried but his emotions where overflowing. “Just leave me alone… please.” His voice was cracking and tears were threatening to fall.
“Tacchan…” but Kame didn’t say more. He let his wrist go and Ueda ran away.
He knew he was escaping reality, running away from his problems, but he couldn’t help it.
Before he knew it, Ueda was in front of the only place where he felt secure those days. He rang the bell but no one responded.
“Of course, he’s probably working.” Ueda thought bitterly, sitting in front of the door. He opened his cell phone. “If only I had his number…”
At the thought, he saw in his contact that someone had been added. It was the person he wanted to see. Ueda called but no one responded. “Of course, he’s probably working.” thought again Ueda.
The boxer sighed. He wasn’t use to be so addict to someone. He felt so insecure right now without Ryo appearing from nowhere to distract him, to make him feel good and happy again. Ueda then realized how much the Osakan had taken place in his life in a mere two weeks. Without asking for much, the younger man had helped Ueda more than necessary.
“Why is he helping me so much?” thought Ueda. “I shouldn’t use so much of his kindness…”
But Ueda didn’t move. He stayed there, sitting in front if the other man’s door, waiting for Ryo to come back.
Time passed and before he knew it, Ueda was snoring softly. His peaceful sleep was interrupted when someone nudge him.
“What the fuck? Ueda, what are you doing here?” said Ryo.
For a moment, Ueda had really forgotten what he was doing here. Then, everything came back to him. The boxer suddenly felt ashamed. He didn’t dare to look at Ryo and only by that, the younger man knew that something had happened.
“Come inside.” said simply the Osakan. Ueda followed him.
“Do you want a drink?” finished by asked Ryo after a long awkward silence when they arrived in the living room. Ueda half smiled, staying on his feet.
“Now you’re asking me?”
“Well, I’m not sure if getting drunk if what you need right now…”
Ueda didn’t responded. He was looking at Ryo’s smile, unsure but so powerful.
“I… I snapped.” said quietly Ueda as he sat on the couch. Ryo followed him.
“What?”
“I snapped. I couldn’t stand it…” the older man didn’t say more.
“You couldn’t stand what?” asked Ryo, seeing that Ueda wasn’t saying more.
“I couldn’t stand their eyes. They are full of concern and of care… How can I not feel guilty? I’m betraying them. I’m not being the friend I’m supposed to be. And they care about me, they want me to feel better and yet, all I’m thinking is how I don’t want them to be together!” Ueda brought his knees near his face, letting his head falling on them. He was tired of crying, no more tears could get out.
“It’s not your fault.” said softly Ryo. Ueda turned his head to look at Ryo, his legs still near his body. “It’s normal that you don’t want them to be together. I think it’s more remarkable that you’re trying your best to be their friends more than hating them.” Patting awkwardly Ueda’s head, Ryo added: “You did well.”
And that’s all Ueda needed.
