A few thoughts on the NCIS Season 7 opener

Sep 26, 2009 23:09

I finally saw 'Truth or consequences' the other night.  I'd read some of the boards, reviews and reactions to the opener before I got to see the episode. From what I'd read, I wasn't expecting to enjoy it.

I really really liked it.

I think the fast forward button is a wonderful tool. But then so are the pause and rewind buttons. ;-)

The clapping at the end wasn't as bad as I'd expected it to be but it still made me cringe. I also found I could explain the necessity for vengeance from a 'gen' perspective so that made me happy.

I am really encouraged by the trailers for the next ep. Angry, shouty, passionate Abby is a joy to watch. But obviously I'll reserve judgement until I've seen the ep.

I think overall, it was the format/construction of the episode that I liked (the time switching/flashbacks, using Tony as the main pov). It felt like such a contrast from other episodes and it was quite refreshing. I don't think they can do that again though. For me, it would cheapen the effect.

I honestly have no idea what route they're going to take with Ziva (building bridges with Gibbs et al, PTSD, trust issues, Eli?, working through the ramifications of Tony's reveal while under the influence of the truth drug). Suppose we'll find out next week.

I thought it was a great season opener! I loved all the great moments. They far outweighed the negatives.

I felt that too.

It was the same with Bounce. The pep talk scene far outweighed the fact that neither McGee nor Ziva took any responsibility for the screw up and let Tony take all the blame. I felt the negatives actually ended up making the positives even more positive. ;-)

That's great. I went into it thinking I wasn't going to like it but I really did enjoy it.

I did wonder whether (maybe) because a large chunk of the episode was from Tony's pov, they carried on that theme and made the ending akin to an action film where the hero defies the odds and rescues the damsel in distress - followed, of course, by the customary slap on the back. Maybe we were seeing Tony's pov of the rescue. I don't know.

In any case, I'm all for more of 1, 2 and 3. I liked the shakeup of character friendships in S6 but I didn't really want it to go on for too long and I'm glad that we seemed to get some resolution (between Gibbs and Tony at least) towards the later part of S6 and now (in the S7 opener) between Tony and Tim.

I thought the 'fool' Tony parts of the ep, were him talking himself down in the memory, the 'girls? women?' business in the whateveritis room.

I thought the whole ep was Tony's pov? almost nothing for when he wasn't there? hmm, will have to check, and resolutely squashes a bunny that thinks it might bite!

It is soooo nice to have someone to squee about NCIS with :D

Very much so.

Tony's pov but with his own interpretation of events at which he wasn't present e.g. later part of Gibbs/Vance conversation on 'changing the circumstances'. Oh and no bunny squashing. Let the bunnies do what they do best - multiply! ;-)

Squeeing is good.
