Looks like the neighbors finally went crazy....

Jun 12, 2007 23:03

I think one of my neighbors shot someone in the yard. The neighborhood is swarming with cops and I saw a gurney being wheeled up. I saw one arrest and the cops seem to be looking for someone else. And I heard the gunshot earlier and thought it was a big firecracker, the kind that blow people's fingers off ( Read more... )

Yeah, I remember the time you came over and shot my neighbor. Or maybe not. :)

I keep walking the dog up and down the road, hoping to see some evidence or at least some "police line, do not cross" tape. No such luck. I guess the excitement's over around here.

Well, when I said that I was actually making an obtuse reference to my former life as a cop. I saw that kind of thing now and again. So now when I hear about something like that what I really think is, "Great, paperwork."

Yeah, I was a little freaked out.
Seems these two neighbors have been feuding for a while. Ironically, one of them is named "McCoy." No kidding.

It is not a happy thing when friends living way out of state send you an email with a news article and say "Isn't that on the street where you still own a house and where you have family living?" Um, yeah.

I may have to use this incident as the basis of a writing exercise soon... I'm doing some of those "take something you only saw a tiny part of and write a scene about what happened before that (or after)."

I'm wondering what drove neighbor 2 to shoot neighbor 3. I'm imagining:

* neighbor 3 didn't bring in his trash cans and the wind blew them into neighbor 2's yard.

* neighbor 3 let his cats trespass on neighbor 2's property, or let his dog poop on neighbor 2's lawn.

* neighbor 3 slept with neighbor 2's girlfriend.

That sounds like a really fun writing exercise! I may have to try it myself. Your scene might as well be accurate for all I know--the news didn't shed much light on the reasons behind the shooting, just that it was "an argument." My sister-in-law says she's heard the two neighbors have been feuding for years, and that (ironically) one of them has the last name of McCoy.

ooo--scary!

Once a car came driving by my house at high speed, with many many shots being fired from it. Right behind it came two or three cop cars and they were shooting at about the same rate (hopefully just the car in front). I thought it was a bit reckless on both sides to be driving and shooting--someone could have gotten hurt--but that is the way they do it on TV, so I guess they thought they had to.

No one came looking for any of those bullets, though, and I never heard what happened.

Wow! Maybe there was a cameraman you didn't notice filming the scene and it really was for TV--or maybe it was a gang of desperate train robbers escaping with big bags of gold with $ written on the side.

I did hear the next day that there had been a high speed chase--but they never said if they caught them, or what they were chasing them for... unless it was something too mundane and I just have forgotten that part and remembered only the exciting part--I might do that :)

Well, if you can't remember why they were shooting at each other, you can imagine all sorts of (probably more interesting) reasons. Maybe they were jewel thieves!
