I've had a lot of success making it with coffee liquor, Irish cream, amaretto, almond liquor, and raspberry liquor (not all at once). And also using rice or almond milk instead of soy milk. Me thinks the triple sec was just a bad choice.

how about the soy nog, have you tried soy nog? i was tempted to buy it yesterday, but was a little hesitant

A couple of friends fed me a soy milk egg nog a few weeks ago. I don't remember what the brand was. It was okay but didn't taste very strongly of egg nog.
