what the hell is wrong with people? seriously. new orleans is in utter ruin, the death toll in mississippi is steadily rising, people are without shelter, food, water and all i hear are people whining about the price of gasoline. it's disgusting! is this what we have become? we are more concerned with our wallets than the welfare and safety of ( Read more... )

I'm very upset about the events in New Orleans hon. But I'm also upset that they're using it as an EXCUSE to gouge us at the pump. The Hurricane effects the oil that was being refined this week. It didn't effect the oil that was already at the gas stations that are suddenly 50 cents a gallon higher. That's what's pissing me off. The greedy ass fuck oil companies are using human tragedy to line their pockets. THAT pisses me off.

That's not it at all. The gas situation can be either really complicated or obscenely simple depending on what way you look at it. Simply, it's supply and demand. Rumor has it gas is going to be running short, people are buying as much as they can. Higher demand, even with the same stock, is going to lead to higher prices.

You can take that further. It's a self-fulfilling prophecy, in that the same people spreading the rumor and panicking are essentially creating the problem.

It's not quite that simple down here, though. Sure, prices aren't that high around here. If you manage to find an open gas station. There is a shortage. It has nothing to do with the refineries, but everything to do with the supply lines being shut off. Simply put, we don't have gas here, except for limited supplies of premium which are being closely rationed.

you're right. that is wrong, but it's the people who are like, "derrrrrr, gas is too expensive. derrrrrr, fuck new orleans, it's their dumb fault for living below sea level" who are annoying me, not people with a legitimate beef. ;o)

I wish I could tell you you're being pessimistic, but the only good I've seen has been the massive hit Wal-Mart is taking.

I can't have empathy for the situation. I have sort of a sympathy for people I work with who have family members they haven't heard from. I have trouble sympathizing with the survivors, though, and I blame the media. It's hard to feel sorry for people complaining--complaining--that they lost their new TV in the flood, or other such trivialities. The only thing I've read so far that has made me feel bad was an account from a man whose wife told him to look after their children right before their house was torn in half and he lost his grip on her wrist ( ... )

you're absolutely right. but that always seems to be the case doesn't it? we are so busy playing policeman/babysitter/bank/savior for everyone else that when tragedy strikes home we're like wtf? what do we do now? and gawd forbid anyone step to the plate to help us when we need it.

it's so fucking ridiculous! we actually have the nerve to act as though we are a model nation. model for what? dysfunction? what a fucking mess. we are like that kid on the playground who gives away all his toys so that the other kids will like him but all the kids just make fun of him behind his back. *sigh*

as much as i hate to pull this card out, i gotta, if this shit had happened in the fucking hamptons or beverly hills lil' georgie would have tripped over himself to get sufficient aid there.

i've seen news reports on various news sites showing white people chest deep in water carrying food and the caption reads something along the lines of "so and so walking through chest deep water carrying bread they found at a local grocery store" and you'll see a picture of a black guy wading through the same water carrying food and you'll see a caption that reads "so and so walks through chest deep water carrying food that was looted from local grocery store". how the fuck is it that they are both in the same situation but they are seen completely differently by the fucked up, so-called unbiased media ( ... )
