The best pen I own, and, I think, the best pen any geek can own, is a Fisher Space Pen. It will never die. It can survive the laundry, easily. It can write underwater and through butter (believe me, I have tried both). It collapses down to approximately 2/3 of its actual size. It feels good in your hand. And it's dead sexy.

Also, Moleskine? Good choice. I have two, one I use for "writing," and one I use as a planner.
