I think this is probably about the most anti-climactic finale for a pilot that I've ever seen ( Read more... )

This post gets bonus points for using a Doctor Who icon! :D rincredible December 4 2010, 23:16:53 UTC
At last, we know the TRUE reason for the eternal war between the Autobots and the Decepticons: Optimus Prime "Roll(ed) Out" over Megatron's cat! XD

Also: Jeffrey Combs voices Ratchet? Now I REALLY need to watch this!

Its a good voice! They've...actually...got a really good voice cast! I sort of wish they'd give them better lines, but...that's certainly not their fault.

...

Now I'm trying to figure out what Megatron's cat would look like. *peers at Ravage*

Oh, and Miko is Japanese. Which needs mentioning, because, unless they were in the act of SAYING it, I don't believe it.

How does someone prove that they're Japanese, and why should they have to? If a character is Japanese, the character is Japanese.

She's female, scrawny, rich, 'Japanese,' and serves only to get the other two humans in trouble so that there can be interactions with giant alien robots.

So "female" and "Japanese" belong on a list of why you find a character annoying? Seriously?

I don't particularly like HOW you called me out on this, but I can see where what I was saying sounds not like what I wanted to say at all, so I am glad that you DID call me out on this, and I'll go fix it up above.

My intention was less to say that "she is annoying because she's a girl and Japanese" and more to say that "WHY is the only girl and the only Japanese person in this show crazy and useless?" The fact that she's female is important to note because I really hate the use of the 'token chick' stereotype that she's permeating, where she keeps needing rescue because she keeps doing stupid stuff.

The fact that she's Japanese....I don't even know. I don't know why they keep bringing it up over and over again, because I have no idea what bearing it has on her character, and it makes me uncomfortable that they'd assign a race to someone just to have her be pointless and annoying. She'd be just as pointless and annoying if she wasn't Japanese, so why is it important that she is? That's what I want to know.

But being Japanese isn't some kind of special character trait that needs explanation or something exceptional. It's just a character trait. To assume that there needs to be a reason for her to be Japanese assumes that the default is white and to deviate from that requires explanation.

I can see what you're saying, but why should it matter what ethnicity a person is? JAck could be of a Latino persuasion, and it wouldn't change the fact that he's sensible and pretty standard for a 16 year old. The humans have no particular defining appearances, so going so far as to make multiple mentions of it when the character otherwise has only negative features is just associating the negative features to the character, who is constantly being referred to as Japanese. THAT is what I don't like.

OPTIMUS PRIME NEVER DISAPPOINTS, UNLIKE YOU STARSCREAM.
NO NEED FOR CONCERN, MASTER. SOUNDWAVE DOESN'T DISAPPOINT EITHER. YOU SHOULD TRY HIM OUT SOMETIME.
Soundwave: .....obsession with: Optimus Prime. Concerning.

This wins. Everything.

That is...really...where I thought that conversation was heading. I just continued it to its real, logical, and true outcome.

Obviously.

But I seriously doubt Fingerscream is disappointing in bed.

Admittedly, in just a couple of days of knowing the Autobots, Miko has already made use of every major Cybertronian explicative. So perhaps that's just how she is. XD

Yes, and yes. The only people I've met (and granted, this is in a limited range) who use mixed words have been doing it because they want to try to seem closer to some other ethnicity for a reason--whether it is to seem cooler, or to stay closer to their roots, or whatever, it's not a random thing, and if used for a character ALSO should probably have a valid reasoning behind it.

Miko seems to suffer from a lot of weird stereotypes. It feels a lot like...like what *I* thought a Japanese American person would be like when I was a teen, which I recall learning later to be kind of against the average grain of the culture and generally disrespectful. It is a lot of what makes her uncomfortable to me--it seems kind of disrespectful.

...You know, I think you need to make icons with some of your comments above.

Anyway, they are set in New Mexico; that's where Jasper is.

And I intrinsically like Jack. I grew to appreciate Sari, but Jack is the first and only human I like from the get-go.

I'm okay with Arcee getting damaged a bit…firstly because it never seems to be permanent and also because she is just that hardcore, doing everything herself.
However, I do have a bit of an issue that Optimus looks and acts unscathed after the 1,000 heatless zombie battle -and- his scuffle with Megatron.

And knees! I have never been so attracted to knees before! Gorgeous lovely spiky knees on just about everyone.

Man, I'd love to have icons of some of these. o.o

I know the kids are living in New Mexico, but I'm pretty sure the bots or the kids or SOMEONE said they needed to go to Texas to get to the satellite array. That's where I got confused. I mean, there are some satellite arrays in Texas, but the big famous one I thought was in New Mexico.

The knees are beautiful. The bodies are beautiful. I'm actually cool with the heads, too. Just need to get personalities slapped into some of their memory cores and I'll be on-board.

They have a land-bridge thingy. They can go just about anywhere from New Mexico in seconds.

Also the world they live in makes just about as much sense as some of the characters.
