Orlando walked to the kitchen since it was there that the heavenly smell was strongest and he heard Johnny still was working with something. He felt the smile crossing his face from what his own heart told him and he was glad that Johnny couldn’t be silent to save his life. Since they had moved in together he had gotten used to the many times Johnny unconsciously hummed different songs. Thinking of it, he knew that it must be one of many reasons he wanted always to be near his lover. His humming had come to have such a calming effect on him.
Orlando walked over to the working man, wrapping his arms around his waist to hug him from behind. The humming stopped, Orlando feeling Johnny stiffen at first before leaning back into his arms, turning his face to kiss the line of Orlando’s jaw.
“I still haven’t gotten used to how silently you can move,” the surprised man whispered.
“And here I thought I was being loud.” Orlando leaned forward to kiss Johnny on the cheek. “Sorry if I startled you. Did I mess anything up?”
“No, nothing at all... you ready to eat, baby?”
“Oh, yeah, that you can bet on! Just the smell of it has teased me long enough.” Orlando laughed, hugging Johnny closer, giving him another kiss while at the same time trying to see what Johnny had been doing.
“Not that I want you to ever really do it, but if you let me go, I can take this deep dish to the table and we can start to recharge your batteries.” Johnny winked at him mischievously, waggling his eyebrows.
Orlando loosed his hold on the man, letting Johnny do as he suggested. Orlando followed him to the table, seeing that Johnny had set up a romantic, candlelit dinner. One hand going to his mouth, he took the chair that Johnny held out for him.
“Johnny, Johnny…” Orlando couldn’t speak for the lump in his throat and the tears that fell freely down his cheeks. After a moment, he was able to get a hold of his composure. “Have I told you yet that I love you with all of my heart?”
“Not in those exactly words, no, but love, you don’t need to say it. I know it.” Johnny took one of Orlando’s hands, squeezing it. “You show it to me. I, on the other hand, am bad about it… both in writing and saying how much I love you.”
Orlando drew his hand back to wipe his face as a second wave of tears fell. Johnny didn’t know what to do so he handed the moved man a napkin and poured some of the red wine into their glasses.
“I’m sorry. I’m such a crybaby.”
“You don’t need to excuse yourself. I would probably be in tears if I was in your position.” Johnny tried to keep his own voice steady. “You should’ve seen Vanessa…”
The tears were accompanied by a smile on Orlando’s face. He could only imagine after his own swift mood changes.
“Okay, I’ll try to remember that. I’ll not keep us from eating any longer, baby. It looks so delicious!” Orlando murmured, glad that his voice was almost back to normal.
They started on the meal. Orlando loved the cook even more, since Johnny really had put his heart into making Orlando’s favourite meal. He took his time, savouring the entrecôte, baked potatoes and vegetables.
“You’ll have to do this again sometime, Johnny,” Orlando told him after he’d emptied the plate.
“Any special reason?” But he was smiling.
“Hmm… well, you know how much I love baked potatoes and the entrecôte was… just perfect,” Orlando replied, sipping some of the wine. “Does there need to be any other reason?”
Johnny smiled merrily as he nodded. Orlando clearly saw that Johnny was satisfied with himself that his lover loved the meal.
“So what’s next on the agenda?” Orlando asked, anxious to know what else Johnny had up his sleeve.
Johnny stood up from his place across the table, reaching over to take the plates and empty the dishes into the basin. Orlando joined him in the kitchen, a bit restless due to his lover’s silence.
“I have more planned, my love… but that I planned to do in other places!” Johnny replied, a devious glint to his eyes and smile, before Orlando could repeat his question.
