The Sharpe's Noun series by Bernard Cornwell...I started them over winter break, and I'm enjoying them a lot :).

Terry Pratchett's Discworld series. Small Gods stands alone fairly well; Guards Guards is the first of the Watch subseries, which I highly recommend.

Unrelatedly, would Thursday be good for you for DC?

Damn, I've got other plans Friday. What about Monday? (Or the weekend, though museums and such will probably be more crowded then...)

I'm in Chicago from this Sunday through next Sunday, and Saturday will be spent getting ready to go.

Leaving: I'm free this evening and thursday evening if you'd like to get together and do something else :-P

You must try The Green Mile by Stephen King. King is known for his horror writings, but TGM is not like that. It will make you laugh, it will make you think, and I guarantee it will make you sob. The movie is great too, but do read the book first. Also try a writer named Tess Gerritsen, she writes medical/mystery thrillers and she's awesome. I also thought highly of Cry No More by Linda Howard.

Actually, I just picked up The Green Mile from the people I babysit for. I've been meaning to read it for a while :)
