oh my goodness boxing fic, I'm worried about not living up to everyone's high standards of the last one but DUDES FIGHTING, I can never resist.

Is there a specific Holmes universe you prefer? The original boxing story was pastiche style, but I can also do movieverse or BBC Sherlock!verse.

This is pre-slash, hopefully Part One of a larger work that I will get around to writing and actually post some day. And when that happens it will have Actual Boxing Times in it. For now, this.

John was scrolling absently through a page of job listings when Sherlock came home. It wasn’t the hour that caught John’s unmitigated attention, it was Sherlock’s black eye and the t-shirt he wore and the faint smell of sweat that John caught as Sherlock crossed the room to sit in his armchair.

“Where’ve you been?” John asked.

“A match,” Sherlock responded absently, picking up the evening paper and flicking it open.

“A match? What kind of match?” John examined him more closely. “What--you don’t go to sports matches, how did you get into a fight…”

“Boxing.”

“You got into a fight with someone at a boxing match?”

“I should hope so, there’d be no way for me to win this if I didn’t fight.” Sherlock glanced up from the paper long enough to toss a rubberbanded wad of bills across the room at John.

“What? What, you were in the boxing match?
