WYWUAS- Chapter 10

He knew he should stay focused. It was an important task, and above all, it was the real Sho’s pride. But right now, Sho wasn’t in the mood; not only because all those juridical terms were beyond his scope of competence, nor was it because it was already past eleven in the evening. It was because there was always one name coming up again and again in his mind: Chisatou-san.

When he came back this evening, Sho had been welcomed by a bouncy younger brother, a cute and quiet little sister, and “his” always so-polite parents. Sho followed Aiba’s advice and only talked when he was sure he wouldn’t blow his cover. But right after he had finished his meal and was getting up from the table, his mother called after him.

“Ah, I almost forgot! Chisatou-san called today. She said that she waited for almost three hours and you never came!” She said it gently, and yet with a tone that a mother would use when she was a bit disappointed with her son’s behavior.

“Eh? Who?” asked Sho, lost. Aiba didn’t tell him anything about an appointment with a woman.

“Chisatou-san! You know, that well-educated and nice young woman.” said his mother facing her husband, “I really like her. She’s very cute, isn’t she?” without waiting for her husband to reply, she looked at Sho once more. “When will you bring her here again?”

Sho didn’t respond and only wished his parents a good night. Since that moment, he had been trying to focus on the next topic of News Zero, but the story about that woman was the only thing in his mind. Sho trusted in the real Sho, there was no doubt about this. His friend was a nice and honest guy and he knew that he loved Aiba truthfully.

But…

There could be no mistake; that Chisatou had already visited the Sakurai house, and she had already been introduced to Sho’s parents. Had they forced him to date a respectable young woman? Sho was already 27 after all, and they wanted grandchildren. That could be the only reason! It was a bit unfair of Sho to keep the truth from Aiba. But no matter what, he would help his friends! He would get rid of that boring Chisatou, for their sake! He wasn’t Matsumo…Sakurai Sho for nothing!

However he would need to be careful and discreet: the real Aiba was already suspicious; he talked to him about his fears recently. That was why, two days ago, Sho had an argument with the real Sho over the phone…

*****

Jun was really angry. It was already the sixth time that a female voice told him that ‘he was through’ and was requested to ‘hold on the line’. He let out a grunt when the other one finally replied.

“What took you so long?” asked MatsuJun, pushing back a lock of hair and checking in the mirror to see if everything was alright.

“Hi to you too, MatsuJun! Excuse me, but you know how Masaki can be so talkative sometimes…” said Sho, sitting up on his bed.

“Actually, I called to talk about Aiba-chan.” said Jun bluntly. Earlier in the afternoon, Aiba came to him and talked about a problem between him and Sho-- the biggest trouble that could come between a couple: another girl! Of course, Aiba asked him to not talk about it with Sho, but Jun couldn’t remain silent.

“Is it true you’re seeing another girl Sho-san?” asked Jun, in a friendlier and more concerned way. He could hear Sho choke through the phone. It was already late and there was no need to prevaricate.

“E-EH?! What the…Who told you that?”

“Nobody in particular” replied Jun, pouring himself a glass of red wine.

“Is it Masaki? Did he say anything?” the anxiety on Sho’s voice was suspicious. So, he really was hiding something from them…

“Not Masaki. To tell you the truth it’s…the president himself!” Jun grinned as he sipped his wine. “In fact he showed me photos of you and that girl in front of a building; be grateful he had intercepted it before it was released in the tabloids…”

What’s funny about Sho is that he would believe everything when it came from his friends.

“WHAT?! Di…Did Masaki see it? He didn’t, right?!” asked Sho hurriedly, his heart beating faster and his hands sweating…until something hit his brain: “Wait…that photo never existed, right?”

“Bingo! Now seriously Sho-san, are you dating another girl behind Aiba-chan’s back?”

“That is none of your business, MatsuJun.” said Sho, strangely calm.

“Of course it is! We’re all friends and we’re Arashi, so this is my business too!” replied Jun, closing his window. Sho could hear the sincerity and his concern in his voice.

“And since when did being in Arashi mean putting your nose in others’ affairs?”  the newscaster laughed softly.

“Since….since…Well since the beginning!” The younger one tried to remain calm, but Sho’s stubbornness was irritating.

“Oh come on! I’m a big guy; I can solve my problems alone.”

“So, are you in trouble? Is she threatening you? Don’t tell me she’s pregnant?!”

“Are you crazy?! Listen, there’s no problem, okay? It only concerns me.” said the rapper, becoming less and less friendly. He loved his band mates, but sometimes they were…too much!

“If you need help you know we’re here for you! I don’t understand you. You know that Aiba-chan is sad about that and you…”

“MATSUJUUUUUN!! Stop it!! I’m tired, I had a long day and I still have a lot of work to do before going to sleep. Put yourself in my shoes!” whined Sho, hoping his friend would understand him and let him go

“Well, if it would help me understand you better, then I wish it!” said Jun softly.

They bade each other good night and hung up, feeling a bit angry. What they didn’t know, was that when they confessed their wishes, a falling star crossed the dark sky as the clock struck twelve.

*****

“Now, I understand…” said Sho, deep in thought. “He’s dealing with this woman all alone.” He lay down on the bed, and promised himself to resolve this issue as soon as possible, before slowly falling asleep.

*****

“Tsukasa…” the young lady almost cried; her fingers firmly clenched around Jun’s arm. The idol remained calm, even though he was surprised at the touch, and called Nino in a reflex. He observed the woman, but the light was dim and her grip was a bit disturbing.

“Why are you avoiding me? You promised! You promised!!” she repeated again and again, getting louder as she held Jun by the shoulders.

“Hey you!” shouted Ohno, running towards both of them. When she saw his face, the woman let go of Jun and moved back, her hand before her mouth, suppressing a cry of surprise.

“Ma-Maou!!” She whispered in horror before running away in the dark.

The two idols watched her run away, dumbfounded.

“She called me Maou…didn’t she?” asked Ohno without moving. Jun simply nodded.

“And she called me Tsukasa.” He added in a neutral voice. Okay, THAT was a little scary and this woman was definitely stupid or crazy, or maybe both! That was all they needed right now: A crazy fangirl!

“Okay, let’s go!” said Ohno, wrapping an arm around Jun’s shoulder and leading him to the lobby. Recognizing the questioning tone in what seemed to be a strangled noise, Ohno let go of his friend a little, and sighed.

“I’ll stay with you tonight!” He said, and it wasn’t a request.

“What? But you can’t. My mom would be worried if she…” whimpered Jun, already picturing his poor mother walking back and forth in the living room and waiting for her son’s return.

“I don’t care! That woman knows where you…MatsuJun lives! Remember the rat episode? Do you want to be the next rat?” He said in a threatening tone. Jun considered the option for a long time- a very long time, until finally he shook his head, slowly.

“Okay, but you call my mom!” He said, resigned as they entered the elevator.

*****

Aiba felt alone. He was in Masaki’s bed, in Masaki’s room, in Masaki’s body, but Masaki wasn’t here with him. What an awful day they had today, particularly him. First he made himself look ridiculous on national TV - well, he wasn’t the one who made the wrong step but MatsuJun; and right now MastuJun was him, so technically speaking he made himself look ridiculous… then the argument about his new haircut. True, it suited him but he liked his former hairstyle. After that he had said something very harsh… Aiba hated himself for that. There was no way he would really hate them, they were his best friends… on the other hand they didn’t really care about how he felt, did they? They were laughing and doing what they wanted without caring about him. When he was in his former body it didn’t bother him that much though; it even made him laugh.

“What’s wrong with me?” He whined, squirming on the bed and turning over on his stomach, his face snuggled on the pillow; he could smell that specific smell he loved so much: Masaki’s scent-it was somewhere between the soft fragrance that tickled your nose during a stroll in a park by a summer day, and those candies… cotton candies!

As Aiba sunk into the pillow a little more, his fingers brushed against something under the pillow. The idol lifted a bit as he pulled the item out from its hidden place. Aiba smiled a little when he saw what was written on the cover page of the book he held in his hands.

“A no Arashi notebook. Property of Aiba Masaki, don’t read if you’re not Aiba Masaki. Thanks, Aiba Masaki”

That was so Masaki-like! Was this what he talked about last night? Aiba looked around him as if he was about to do something silly. Right now he was Aiba Masaki, right? So…he could read it. Besides it wasn’t as if it was some secret diary or something like that anyway.

Aiba sat up and crossed his legs under him, the notebook on his lap. As he started to read, Aiba thought that Masaki was really a genius; a crazy one! Who else but Masaki would wonder what a cheese cake would taste if you put syrup on it then liquid nitrogen? Or how long you could remain under water with a bottle of laughing gas as oxygen? There were plenty of those silly questions all over the pages. Aiba was laughing so hard that his mother came in from time to time, asking if everything was alright. But truly, why would you want to know if you could turn some habaneros into instant soup after turning it into powder?

Still laughing, Aiba turned the next page, and the title on top of it made him curious.

“S no Aiba?” He read out loud before reading the first ‘experiment’.

“Would Sho-chan’s voice be different if we were doing IT in a room full of helium?...Ehhhh?!”

And this question wasn’t the only one. Between all the ‘Play the spaghetti scene from ‘Lady and the Tramp’ with Sho-chan’, ‘How can I make Sho-chan laugh more often?’ and ‘Will Sho-chan always love me even when I’m an old man?’; Aiba had the feeling that this note book was becoming more and more of a secret diary.

“If I were a girl, would Sho-chan love me forever? Who is that Chisatou-san? Is she beautiful? Is she nice? Why does she call Sho-chan so often?” Those questions hurt him.

It didn’t matter if they were both guys! They loved each other, that was what’s important, and that’s exactly why he was tired of saying that he wasn’t gay! He loved Masaki. It didn’t matter if he was a man or a woman. He had fallen in love with Aiba Masaki, that was all!

However what hurt him the most was to know that his own lover didn’t trust him enough to share his worries. He wanted to call him, right away. But it was already two in the morning. It would be better if he slept a little; after all in less than a few hours he would be seeing him again…

*****

“YAY! GREAT! FRIED CHICKEN!!!” Nino screamed happily, jumping from the couch and welcoming the AD who brought their lunch to the green room.

Sho and Aiba were working on News Zero’s next topic and didn’t even seem to notice the noises their friend was making. They were absorbed in their work, with Sho listening carefully to Aiba’s simple explanations. It was so simple when Aiba explained it, why did professionals have to use all those difficult words and boring concepts?

However, as much as Aiba was concentrated in his work, when Nino came back and sat near him on the couch, he unconsciously wrapped an arm around Nino’s waist and brought him closer. Not that it bothered the smaller one, but Aiba was acting strangely today.

First, when Aiba arrived in the green room he almost jumped on Nino and kissed him like he never had before. It was passionate and eager, but somehow it felt a bit…desperate? He told Nino how much he missed him last night and that he loved him, always kissing him again and again until Sho came in and coughed, informing them of his presence. Since that moment, Aiba had been very touchy and rarely let go of Nino. The latter giggled as he remembered it.

The three of them had a start when the door slammed open, letting in a sleepy Jun and a visibly angry Ohno.

“We need to talk.” the leader said in a low tone and locking the door.

“Who’s that girl? What does she want? And more importantly, why on earth is she calling you Tsukasa?!” asked Ohno, who was strangely calm. Jun was certainly behind Ohno’s calmness. Sho bowed his head and sighed; it was useless to lie now; they had already seen her.

He rubbed his forehead, then ran a hand through his hair and finally lifted his head and planted his gaze in Ohno’s.

“Her name is Mikoto, that’s all I know about her. She thinks I’m really Domyoji Tsukasa and she’s harassing me. At first I thought she was a fan who joked in her fan letters, but rapidly letters became text messages, then calls and finally real encounters. She wasn’t violent until the…the rat episode, and that’s why I thought Riida would be fine.”

Sho’s confession had been said in a low, grave and slow tone. He had tried his best to hide this problem from his band mates but now everything was ruined.

“Since when have you been bearing this?”  Jun asked in a whisper, as though he were afraid that the girl would storm into the room if she heard them.

“Almost three months I think…”

“But why…why didn’t you tell us anything?” choked Nino, a hand on his stomach as he felt strangely sick.

“I…I didn’t want to make you worried. Furthermore, we were so busy- we still are, and I thought it wasn’t a big deal and that I could resolve it alone… But despite all my efforts… I don’t want to ruin Arashi’s image; we’re in our tenth year and… it’s not her fault, not really.”

“Not her fault?! MatsuJun she’s crazy! She needs help! I don’t know: prison, psychiatric help, anything! She’s dangerous!! She called me Maou! What would you think if I told you that a veteran follows me thinking I’m Saigo?!” asked Ohno, jumping from his seat and walking to and fro in the room.

“R-really?!” Jun stifled, gripping Ohno’s arm in a reflex.

“No” sighed Ohno, resting a hand on the one on his arm and rolling his eyes.

“Listen, this is my business! I’ll take care of it alone.”

“But I thought that since we’re Arashi, we must take care of each other…” smirked Aiba, his eyes fixed on Sho’s. The latter didn’t answer, but the death glare he gave Aiba was anything but good. However, the taller one didn’t seem to notice- or rather he feigned it.

“Anyway, we should think about something. Not dangerous, and discreet.” resumed Aiba, standing up from his seat and rubbing his chin.

“And a secret again, we’re accumulating them, aren’t we?” sighed Nino, despite the joke he felt hopeless and a bit worried, just like the others. Everyone started to prepare themselves for the filming, but nobody thought about what joke or funny act they would perform during the show; MatsuJun’s problem was in everyone’s mind.

Except for one of them.

“Masaki, we need to talk…” said Aiba in a low voice, standing up before Nino and resting his hand on the smaller man’s shoulder. The cheerful idol’s phone rang and Masaki cut himself off in a corner of the room.

Nino looked at his lover, worried. If there was one sentence in a couple that meant nothing good it was ‘We need to talk’. The magician noticed he wasn’t the only one who suspected that when Sho’s sorry look came in his sight. The conversation Aiba was having- or particularly, the one with whom he was speaking, wasn’t reassuring.

“I’m deeply sorry, really. I…Yes…Yes, I understand, but…No! No, you can’t drop me-him, please! I-Sakurai-san needs you, Chisatou-san! I promise, I’ll make up for it! Okay…see you tonight at 9.”

Aiba hung up and sighed, he had totally forgotten about their last appointment, and this ‘bodies-exchange’ he was experiencing right now wasn’t helping. In the other corner of the room, Sho didn’t lose anything, he listened carefully and the desperate voice of Aiba made him a bit angry; he was right in front of Nino for God’s sake!

Just when Aiba came back towards Nino, a voice in the corridor told them to get ready and that the filming would start soon. The group stopped what they were doing and looked at their reflections one last time before leaving their room.

The cameras had been rolling for ten minutes already and everything was safe until now. The guest, Horikita Maki was nice and always laughed. Everyone played his role perfectly as if they were really the one they pretended to be. There were some nervous tics however, that the camera, unfortunately, caught: MatsuJun scratching his nose, Aiba wrinkling his nose, Nino giggling from time to time and earning a hit in the ribs from Ohno, the latter smirking and biting the inside of his cheek to prevent himself from talking, and finally Sho whose eyes seemed to blink as his smile disappeared every time the guest would mention Toma.

Anyway, until now ‘Arashi no Shukudai-kun’s’ filming went smoothly and the members must admit that it was funny to act as another person. However, they still didn’t know that their favorite corner would ruin all their work.
