WYWUAS - Chapter 9

“Want some ramen, with me, tonight?”

Jun and Ohno paced up and down the studio’s corridors side by side. Each member was slowly getting ready for the photo shoot, and Jun and Ohno were going back to the green room after having their make-up put on. Without a reply from Ohno, Jun thought that further information was needed: “My treat?”

“Okay!” Ohno answered, looking left and right, and putting an arm around Jun’s waist.

“What’s wrong?” Despite Ohno’s neutral appearance, it was obvious that Ohno was deep in thought. Something was bothering him and Jun had noticed.

“Hum? Oh nothing…I was just thinking that if we remain in this state, Ohmiya SK would become Ohjun SM…I like the ‘SM’ part, though the ‘Ohjun’ doesn’t sound good. And it’s the best name I found.” Ohno stated as if the real problem wasn’t the loss of their bodies, but the way their new duo would sound. Jun simply nodded, this situation doesn’t bother him either. As long as Ohno would be Nino and MatsuJun would be Ohno, there wasn’t any problem.

“Ah! But wait!” Exclaimed Jun, who stopped walking as a fact entered his mind, “We can’t use the ‘SM’ it’s for Aiba-chan and Sho-kun!”

“I don’t care! We were Ohmiya SK before they were Sakuraiba SM!!” grunted Ohno, rolling his eyes and tightening his hold around Jun’s waist. “And if we remain in this state, they can’t be Sakuraiba SM anymore but…” Ohno thought for a second. “Aimiya…Niba...Kazuma…Whatever…Nothing sounds good!”

“But Ohmiya SK is made with our names and then our given names. Ohjun SM doesn’t work; you’re mixing our names and given names…”

“I know that! But SatoJun OM means nothing, though I know there’s a French football team called OM- I learned it while playing PES. But I want SM!! And don’t think so deeply, Oh-chan!”

As they talked about hypothetical stage names, their walk nearly came to an end. Not that they were already in front of the green room’s door, but the cries coming from inside were audible from far away.

“Sho-kun isn’t calm yet…” said Jun.

That’s too bad, because in the car, Aiba had somehow calmed down, and his murderous desires had disappeared. But since they entered the building, the whispering around them and more specifically, the giggling from the workers, roused a new fury in Aiba.

“…And something tells me that he’ll be exploding in a second.” Ohno smirked as he saw Sho enter the green room. Strangely, neither screams nor curses could be heard from the room, only a ‘Sorry I’m late’ from Sho. Jun and Ohno looked at each other before running inside.

A long silence filled the room. Sho stood in the middle, in front of Nino, and Aiba who looked like a fish gasping for air. Aiba pointed a shaky finger at Sho, his eyes and his mouth wide open.

“My…my…my…” Currently, the only word in Aiba’s brain was this personal pronoun.

“What?” Sho asked harshly, crossing his arms upon his chest. He was still in a bad mood.

Sho was now on DoS mode…

“My…my…” continued Aiba.

“I think it’s…cute?” Jun tried, walking by Aiba’s side. This only resulted in Aiba turning his head toward him: “Cu…Cu…Cu…”.

“Oh come on, Sho-chan, this isn’t the end of the world!” Ohno shrugged, trying to find were his deck of cards was hidden.

Unexpectedly, the next one who spoke, or rather, exploded, was none other than Nino: “What have you done?! Why?! WHYYYYYY?!! Sho-chan…Sho-chan’s hair!!”

Aiba was thankful to Nino for being on his side, but the next sentence was really out of place.

“I want my Kamiyama-haircut back! I still haven’t played the ‘Quiz Sho-chan’ with Sho-chan….” Nino cried against Jun’s chest, his voice muffled by the other’s body.

“I needed to calm down” Sho replied simply, as if it was common sense.

Did nobody care about how HE felt? Did nobody wonder if he felt as though he were raped? One cut his hair because he ‘needed to calm down’, and the other just wanted to sleep with him and try weird sex games! What was his body? Just a toy? Something you use to distract yourself from boredom?

Enough.

He had enough of this. For the first time since Arashi was formed, Aiba pronounced three words that his band mates never thought the true Sho would say: “I hate you”.

Right after that, Aiba left the room after the assistant called them. He headed for the set without looking back and left his band mates totally stunned in the dressing room.

*****

“Great. Yeah, exactly what I want…Hum…could you turn just a bit? Perfect!” the photographer shouted happily, his camera was shooting like crazy and the flashes didn’t seem to stop. Aiba was the first one on the set, and so he started the shooting first. The theme was “Flowers and their meaning.”

Aiba wasn’t smiling as widely as he usually did. His beautiful and cheerful smile was replaced by something one could call pain; but still, a beautiful one. The irony was that, without knowing, Aiba had picked a flower which reflected his current emotion.

“Aiba-san, you’re simply great! Yes…a bit more on the left…” said the photographer, before adding: “Why did you pick this one Aiba-san?”

“I…don’t know. I felt like I should take it…” answered Aiba, sitting on the ground, the flower resting on his lap.

“It’s a busy lizzie and it means: ‘You hurt me.’” explained an assistant, reading his notes about the flowers. Hearing this, Aiba unconsciously turned his gaze toward the others who were waiting behind the photographer. The photographer immortalized this moment and decided that it was enough. The last shoot was the best one!

“Thanks, Aiba-san! Hum…Ohno-san would you mind being the second?” asked the professional as he prepared his camera for the next session.

Jun and Ohno moved forward at the same time and bumped into each other. They laughed softly and Jun moved back. Ohno looked at the flowers on the table, and without any hesitation, picked up a red and yellow one.

“What does this mean?” asked Ohno as he headed to the set.

“Hum… Hemerocallis fulva, also known as daylily. This flower is an adulterous invitation.” said the assistant. Ohno locked his gaze on Jun and smiled in a vicious way.

“Sho-chan…” Nino called as he saw Aiba passing him by. The taller man didn’t even look at him. He went to the corner of the room and sat alone. Nino turned his head to the other two, silently asking them what he could do, but they only shook their heads softly.

After Ohno, it was Jun’s turn. The youngest picked a yellow flower, named flame iris. When they heard that it meant ‘I’m deeply in love with you’, Jun and Ohno looked at each other again. Sho chose the white gardenia which was well harmonized with the red of his cheeks as he learnt its meaning.

‘Secret love’ He thought, feeling his cheeks burning more and more as he tried to hide their color behind the whiteness of the blossom.

Finally it was Nino’s turn. The magician hesitated between a blue one, and a pink and orange one. His hand carefully took the blue flower, and with a last vain glance at Aiba, Nino posed. The set was really quiet, none of the members nor the cast spoke, and even the photographer was mute.

“He’s really a great actor…” whispered the photographer behind his device. The pain in Nino eyes was breathtaking; his face was blank as if his body was empty and his soul was floating around, seeking for a way to coming back in him. A sparkle shone in Nino’s eyes as Aiba stood up and headed towards him, but disappeared quickly as he saw the taller man passing through the door and leaving the set, without a word or even a glance; the photographer immortalized this brief moment.

A few minutes later, the staff thanked the members and let them return to their green room. The photographer asked his assistant what the meaning of Nino’s flower was, and he seemed lost in his thoughts: “It hurts when you’re ignoring me…” he repeated thinking deeply.

*****

“Go inside!” whispered Ohno to Sho. The four guys were in front of the green room’s door, unable to open it. Who knew what was happening inside? They weren’t scared of Aiba, but since yesterday, the taller one had acted strangely; it seemed that he wasn’t himself anymore, which was understandable since he wasn’t in his true body. Anyway, the calm, kind and well-educated Sakurai Sho seemed far away, right now.

“Why me?!”

“Hum…let me guess…You made a fool of him on a live TV show, you cut his hair without asking…True, I don’t understand why I thought you were the one at fault!” replied Ohno sharply, crossing his arms on his chest and leaning against the wall.

Sho clicked his tongued and rolled his eyes. Okay, maybe he had done one or two bad things, but it wasn’t the end of the world! Moreover, the new haircut suited him very well; at least it suited his newscaster role. Furthermore he wasn’t the only one responsible, and Sho suffered from this condition as much as the others did.

“Aiba-chan.” Jun said, nudging Nino, who slowly shook his head in response.

Nino wasn’t helpful right now; Aiba wouldn’t talk to anybody in this state. But Nino was barking up the wrong tree if he thought his friends would listen to him. The three guys looked at each other and nodded after a few seconds of silence. Sho opened the door and Ohno and Jun pushed Nino into the room before closing it firmly. The three accomplices prevented all possible exits.

With his back against the door, Nino sighed softly; those idiots had wedged the door shut from outside. How can he be useful if he didn’t know what happened to Aiba? He understood perfectly that the haircut made him mad, but why was he angry with all the members, when Sho was the only one responsible? And never until now, had Aiba ignored Nino. He sighed again and pushed himself from the door, walking slowly towards the couch in the center of the room.

“Sho-chan?” Nino asked carefully, a slight tremor in his voice. But there was no response.

Nino walked around the couch and saw Aiba, lying down on the couch, an arm over his eyes and the earphones on his ears.

He was upset. Not angry. Upset.

Nino bent over Aiba, moving a hesitant hand towards the ruffled hair and stopped above Aiba’s head. When he thought about removing his hand, a firm hand gripped his wrist and Nino suppressed a soft cry of surprise.

Aiba’s piercing gaze was focused on him, and the silence between the two of them was heavy. When Nino moved his lips to say something, it was Aiba who talked first.

“Kiss me.” He asked, even though it sounded more like an order than a request.

“E-excuse me?” Nino was too focused on trying to release his wrist from the grip to understand.

“If…if you love me…kiss me,” said Aiba again, this time gentler and maybe even a little hopeless. His gaze wasn’t as fierce as it was a minute ago, it was a little imploring.

Against all expectations, Nino pulled on the grip and released his wrist, and then put his fists against his hips and scolded Aiba.

“Sakurai Sho, I don’t know what’s wrong with you lately, but let me tell you this: I’m fed up with your outburst of temper! I don’t mind if you’re angry with me- even though I don’t know the reason; but if you’re thinking, even just for a second, that I don’t truly, deeply and sincerely love you, that means you’re the biggest idiot in the world!”

Silence fell again in the room, and after all the words registered in his brain, Aiba smiled softly: “Say it again…”

“What? That you’re an idiot?” Asked Nino dumbfounded.

“That you love me, idiot!” Aiba rolled his eyes as he asked for the confession again, surrounding Nino’s waist with his arms and pulling him closer.

“Not before you tell me what’s wrong.” said Nino gently, lovingly caressing his hair. Aiba violently shook his head against Nino’s stomach which made the magician giggle.

“Don’t know and don’t wanna know” answered the muffled voice of Aiba.

“I love you Sho-chan…” whispered Nino, holding him tightly, but still worried about his lover.

The lovely scene was interrupted by Ohno’s banging against the door: “HURRY UP! THE CAR’S WAITING, WE HAVE TO GO AHEAD!...DON’T FORGET TO PICK UP OUR STUFF!”

The two lovers looked at each other and started to laugh. As Nino picked Jun and Ohno’s bags, Aiba looked at his phone and smiled softly upon seeing the message: “Can we go Masaki?”

“Th-thank you for the hard work!” the VS Arashi staff screamed a bit uneasily. Arashi came back to the dressing room and everyone sighed deeply.

“Well…it was almost perfect…” said Nino, scratching the back of his neck.

“Perfect he says…Yeah, if perfect means filming the WORST episode of our life.” smirked Ohno, who was already furiously pushing the buttons on his DS.

In a few weeks, the viewers would see a really strange episode of ‘VS Arashi’; an episode where Jun never talked and messed up during the Rolling Coin Tower, and Ohno talking a lot, and making fun of the guests. They also would see Aiba failing at everything, earning only 180 points at the Cliff Climb, even if he managed to reach the top of the wall, Aiba’s fans would be delighted with the two long minutes of Aiba scared screaming and the heavy landing on his butt. Sakurai Sho was maybe a little too tense for a host, but his perfect score of 300 during the Falling Pipe earned a standing ovation from the audience. Finally, about the giggly Nino…

“Why did you hurt my head? Didn’t you see the rod in front of you?!” Ohno grunted, losing a life again.

“I didn’t do it intentionally! It hurts you know?! And how could I know that the guest would pick those pipes?!” whined Nino, massaging his forehead.

“According to the rules, you have to stop the pipes with your hands, Aiba-chan; your hands, not your head!”

“Well, it was the first try; we know we should be more focused next time.” said Aiba, putting on his own clothes.

Everyone nodded, but the silence that followed Aiba’s advice showed that no one in Arashi was sure they would do better in their next work.

…And mostly because, now, the serious things started.

After they exchanged their mobile phones, gave a last minute advice and wished themselves good luck, everybody headed for their ‘usual’ house. There was no way Aiba Masaki would come back to the Sakurai house calling ‘I’m home’ as if nothing was weird. Or Matsumoto Jun would kiss Ohno’s mother, saying that he was ‘right here’ as she desperately tried to reach her dear Satoshi through the phone. Maybe Nino’s mother would ask Ohno how he was convinced by her stupid son to play such a ridiculous prank. But it was almost 100% certain that Aiba’s parents would welcome Nino and offer him some Chinese food while playing at riddles.

Anyway, keeping the truth from their family was the safest decision.

Later, Ohno and Jun came out from a ramen shop, full and a little tired. The day had been very weird and tiring, but Jun didn’t want to let Ohno head back home yet. The truth was that he didn’t want to come back to Jun’s empty and quiet apartment alone, but since the true Nino was in fact Ohno, it couldn’t be helped…

Ohno had insisted on showing Jun home, not that Jun complained. At the corner of Jun’s building, both of them hid in the shadows and Ohno tenderly kissed the younger one.

“You really can’t stay tonight?” asked Jun with a pout.

“Not that I don’t want to, but your mother would freak out if she doesn’t see me, I mean you, I mean me as you…”

They laughed a little more and kissed again. Those two were really the only ones who didn’t seem to be bothered by this mess.

Just when they parted and wished each other goodnight, Jun jumped from surprise as he felt a firm grip around his arm.

“Ni-Nino!” Called Jun, and Ohno turned to see Jun and a creepy woman next to him.

The woman tightened her grip and looked at Jun painfully.

“Tsukasa…”
