Nino stood frozen in place for a long time.

To most people, Ohno was a sleepy person who always had his head in the clouds, but everybody in Arashi knew that when something bothered one of them, Ohno was always the first to notice. The way that Ohno looked at him meant that he definitely knew. The fact that it was Jun’s face looking at him with Ohno’s gaze was really disturbing. With the silence growing, eyes started staring at Nino, one by one. He knew he must tell them the truth.

However…

How would they react?

A hesitant hand pressed against Nino’s leg. When he looked at its owner, the real Aiba knew he had to say something. Nino looked at his own face, whose eyes were staring at him intensely, and his mouth started to move.

“I…”

He has to tell them.

“…Just…”

But how would they take the news?

“...Remembered something…”

He couldn’t hold it in anymore.

His eyes fixing onto Aiba’s, he finally said: “I promised my mom that I would help her today.”

No. He couldn’t tell them. He hated to lie but had no other option. Later, maybe? Yes, he’ll tell them the entire story later, when he found the solution. Tonight, when everyone is asleep, he’ll read this article and he will find a solution. Definitely!

The other four nodded, believing the lie. Indeed this situation was really a nuisance, not only to their professional lives, but their private ones as well. Even if they can fool their fans and their colleagues, doing the same to their families was another story.

“One thing at a time! First we have to plan something. We must hide this problem and act as if nothing happened.” stated Ohno, deep in thought.

“Well, we have all day and night to develop a plan. But before that, let’s eat something.” said Sho, heading for the kitchen. It was already one o’clock in the afternoon and their stomachs hurt.

“Oh? It will be the first and only time that Sho-chan would cook something edible!” Ohno joked, taking his DS out again.

“Haha. Very funny.” Answered the one concerned, in a small voice. He left the living room and headed for the balcony.

Once he was alone, Aiba sighed deeply. It must be a dream, right? How can something like that happen? And Masaki, how could he act as if everything were ordinary? Since this morning, his conversation with Nino had been playing repeatedly in his head. He couldn’t push himself but he couldn’t let Masaki down either. Must he tell him? Relationships are based on trust and communication, right? But if he told Nino how he felt now, the younger one wouldn’t understand, maybe he would even get angry.

“Sho-chan?” a voice came from behind. A hand laid itself down his shoulder and he tensed up, when he recognized the voice.

“Don’t touch me!” He squealed, suddenly pulling away from Nino’s touch.

Nino looked at him, shocked and hurt, his arm hanging in mid air and straining to reach Aiba’s shoulders.

So, he was right. Since this morning, Sho had been acting strangely, he had been trying to avoid physical contact with him, and when one of them touched the other, he was hesitant and tense.

In the end, Sho was still angry with him despite his confession. Nino dropped his eyes, and nodded with a sad smile on his lips. Slowly, he stepped back into the living room.

“Masaki I didn’t mean to…” Started Aiba, but it was in vain.

“I’m going to take a shower!” said Nino in a falsely cheerful voice as he ran to the bathroom at full speed.

Aiba sighed loudly when he came back to the living room. No one was looking at him. Sho was too busy with his cooking, Ohno was focused on beating the boss in his game, and Jun was drawing.

Aiba stared at the other couple in the sofa. They were sticking to one another, and acted as they always had. Doesn’t it bother them? The previous night, they slept together, and when they woke up it was not the same person against them.

Of course it was disturbing!

Or maybe it didn’t mean anything to them…

“Sho-chan, you’re thinking too much. Please be careful with Aiba-chan’s brain.” said Ohno. His eyes never left his double screens, but he knew that his band mate was struggling with himself.

“Sho-san, if you have nothing to do, can you give me a hand?” Sho asked from the kitchen. It was the first time that they saw Sho so active and doing well in the kitchen. So, it wasn’t a muscle problem after all, but truly just Sho’s skills.

“By the way, what are we going to eat Matsujun?” asked Jun. His eyes were focused on his drawing, every detail was important and his hands moved rapidly and precisely.

“Pizza. Quickly cooked, and quickly eaten.” answered Sho.

Half the day had already passed, and they hadn’t settled on anything about their problem. The earlier they talk about it, the earlier they’ll solve it. A long day and certainly a long night, was waiting for them.

***********

With his back against the closed door, Nino was silent.

‘Don’t say a word. Don’t even sigh.’ he said to himself, knowing that when the slightest sound crossed his lips, the tears would fall. His head bowed, his eyes closed and his fists clenched, he tried his best to not cry. A teardrop ran down his cheek, then a second, and a third. It was over and he knew it. Now the tears wouldn’t stop. To cover his cries, Nino ran the water in the shower.

Why did it hurt so much? Why was it over? Why? Why? This single word came back again and again in his mind as he took off his clothes and entered the shower. It was unfair! He didn’t do anything wrong! It was not his fault! He loved Sho, and he knew Sho loved him, so why was it over? Just because of a kiss? A kiss he gave, thinking it was his lover. Life was unfair. Destiny was unfair. Love was unfair.

“Sho-chan is unfair…” Nino cried. The water burned his body, but the sensation was nothing compared to how much his heart hurt. The pain was unbearable, and the tears that he cried couldn’t reflect how much he was hurting, but it helped. He knew that when he left the bathroom, he wouldn’t show his pain.

Definitely not.

After fifteen minutes, lunch was ready. Ohno was clearing the coffee table, and Jun was taking the pizza out from the oven, while Sho picked up a bottle of wine. Aiba was still in the sofa, watching the TV without really caring. His mind was focused on the bathroom door which was still closed. He only took his place when the others called him out for lunch.

“Aiba-chan! Come quickly or we’ll start without you.” called Ohno, sitting next to Jun.

“I’m coming!” Nino sing-songed coming out of the bathroom, followed by a cloud of steam. His hair was wet and he draped a towel around his neck.

“Matsujun, your bathroom is the best! Your shower has so many devices I could stay inside for hours!” He giggled, sitting between Jun and Sho. Aiba looked at Nino in shock, his heart missing a beat when he realized what had just happened. Masaki didn’t sit next to him and wasn’t even looking at him.

“Masaki? Why don’t you come and sit here?” tried Aiba, patting the cushion next to him.

“Hum? No thanks, I’m fine here.” said Nino in a dispassionate voice. He took a slice of pizza and started to talk to Jun about the last animal documentary he watched. Unfortunately for Jun, he didn’t understand a quarter of what Nino was saying. Didn’t his mother ever tell him that it was impolite to speak with his mouth full?

Ohno looked at Aiba with a nervous smile. It was the first time that he saw the two in a fight. Even if he could fool Sho, Aiba was a very bad comedian. His happiness felt faked, and the fact that he was in Nino’s body wasn’t the reason.

The rest of lunch was spent laughing, and eating, Sho’s pizza, but there was one who didn’t eat at all. His eyes were focused on one particular person who giggled too much to be sincere.

Once their stomachs were full, Sho went to the kitchen and came back with a paper board. All the attention was concentrated on him while he drew five columns and wrote five names at the top of each one. He then started an inventory of single and collaboration duties.

“So…the first jobs we have are…the shooting and the VS Arashi recording…” stated Jun, thinking aloud.

The shooting would not be a problem; all they had to do was to pose as the photographer wished, but the show was another story.

“Nothing changes, except the fact that I will be the MC since I’m supposed to be Sho-san,” explained Sho as if there was no problem at all.

“Really…Matsujun?” Said Jun, doubtful.

“I don’t see what’s difficult. You announce the guests, present the game and fail…since we’re talking about Sho-chan.” Ohno smirked; but his joke had no effect on the target. Aiba was looking at the board but his mind seemed to be somewhere else.

“Right Sho-chan?” asked Ohno, waving his hand before Aiba’s eyes. The latter jerked, surprised.

“Y…yeah. “ said Aiba, not knowing what he agreed to. After another failed attempt to try and catch Nino’s eyes, he got up abruptly, “Excuse-me, I’ll be back in a minute.”

Aiba went inside the bathroom, leaving his band mates in an awkward silence. Once the door was closed, Sho scratched the nape of his neck and sighed, frustrated.

“What’s wrong with him?!”

“Yeah…I really wonder…” answered Ohno, turning his head towards Nino and looking at him with an accusing glare. Nino looked at him as well, then at the closed door. It wasn’t he who wanted to break up, but if Sho really wanted to end their relationship, why was he so upset? The group remained silent for several more minutes.

“…MASAKIIIIIIIIIIIIIII!”

The four of them jumped and turned their heads towards the bathroom door after hearing Aiba’s given name called out in a strangled scream, rapidly followed by the sound of glass crashing on the floor.

“Sho-kun? Are you alright?” asked Jun from his place. But there was no reply. Sho got up and tried to open the door, unfortunately it was locked. He knocked and called Sho’s name again. There was still nothing but silence. When Sho stuck his ear against the door he could hear a small cry of pain. He turned his head to his band mates, fearful. Seeing Sho’s worried eyes, Ohno walked towards the door, furiously and banged on it strongly.

“Sho! Open the door…RIGHT NOW!”
