His class was just over when he saw he had missed a call. Sho put down his cup of tea and picked up his phone. It was one of the women from the day care center; she said that they wanted to talk about Nyako-chan. Right away Sho took his leave and ran to the day care center, fearing the worse. Did Nyako hurt? Or maybe she was sick?

Sho arrived dripping with sweat, his eyes darted back and forth when a familiar person came towards him.

“Sho-chan? What are you doi…”

“PAPA!!” Shouted happily the little girl, running towards her anxious father.

“NYAKO!” Said Sho, relieved. He took his daughter in his arms and kissed her forehead. “Are you alright? Did something happen?”

Masaki was stunned, he observed both of them and it took few seconds to understand what was happening. “EH?! Sho-chan…You…You’re Nyako-chan’s father?!”

“Papa knows Onii-chan?” Asked the child, playing with her father’s tie.

“Oh? So you’re ‘Onii-chan’? Now I understand why she likes you.” Said Sho, putting down Nyako and holding her tiny hand in his.

“Ye…yeah but…how? I mean, I know ‘how’ but…” Stuttered Masaki, completely lost. Of course, why didn’t he realize before? Nyako-chan family name was Sakurai! But he had to admit that Sho being a father was a little…strange?

“Excuse-me Aiba-chan but…I still have a lot of work. What’s the problem with Nyako?” Asked Sho, a little ashamed of being rude, but he was in a hurry.

“Ah…well…nothing. Nyako-chan is a nice girl…and…there’s no problem at all.” Said Aiba, a little lost, and to tell the truth that discovery made him forget about his anger.

“Great, I feel relieved! For one minute I was scared something bad happened to her!” Smiled Sho, taking Nyako in his arms again. “But my princess wouldn’t do anything bad, would she?”

“Nooo.” Replied Nyako playfully. And Sho repeated it with the same tone then laughed. The picture of both laughing genuinely brought a smile on Masaki’s lips, and he thought that maybe he was wrong; sometimes parents don’t use their work as an excuse.

Masaki showed Sho out, the latter waving one last time at his daughter before turning towards Aiba and bowed respectfully:”Please, take care of her.”

“Ah! Of course! Sorry for the trouble!” Replied Aiba quickly while bowing. He stayed at the doors watching Sho leaving for a long time, even after he couldn’t see him anymore. Nyako came towards him and tugged on his apron.

“So…Sho-chan is your papa, huh?” He said pensively as he took the girl in his arms. “You’re lucky, you know?” At that Nyako nodded “Nyako-chan loves papa!”

“Onii-chan loves your papa too…” He muttered.

*****

He felt dizzy, the memories of what he did a few hours ago flashed through his drunken mind. Everything started when he was on his way home. It was what we could call a perfect day: his students were interested and concentrated during his class, his superior congratulated him for the report and he could leave his work earlier than usual. But when he turned at the corner of the street he saw the worst thing he could imagine. At the news-stand there were plenty of gossip papers, all announcing the weeding of Anna Kunimitsu the famous top model with a rich and certainly idiot heir. Her smile on the cover was simply disgusting! How could she marry him while she had already a family?! The fact that she forgets about him was painful, but how could she forget her own daughter?!

He bought a copy and ran like a fury into his house. The interview made him sick and it was worse with the pictures. He wasn’t jealous, of course he always hoped she would come back, but he wasn’t jealous. For the first time Sho was angry at her. And then he saw those two short lines which made him see red:

‘I always dreamt of having children.’

‘First the wedding, then a family!’

“YOU ALREADY HAVE A FAMILY!!” He shouted throwing the magazine. He needed to take out his bad temper on something: chairs, vases, table, and others bibelots, nothing resisted his anger. That’s at that moment his mother and Nyako came back, welcomed by screams and crashing sounds.

“SHO!” Shouted his mother, hiding her granddaughter behind her back.

“SHE BETRAYED US!! SHE BETRAYED HER OWN DAUGHTER!! He cries, tears running down his cheeks.

“I KNOW BUT PLEASE CALM DOWN! YOU’RE SCARING NYAKO-CHAN! She said, hoping it would bring him to his senses. She sighed with relief when Sho stopped and fell on his knees.

“How could she…how could she…” he cries, hitting the ground with his fists. His mother knelt down beside him and took him in her arms, stroking tenderly his hair. “Shh…”

He needed air, he needed to go somewhere, because the sight of Nyako, scared and hiding behind the wall hurt him.

And now he was on the ground, under the heavy rain, threw out by the bar keeper and completely drunk. He didn’t know why but he called Aiba, the one who always took care of him when he felt bad.

“Yes?” Sho could hear the usual smile in his voice.

“A…iba…chan” He said difficultly, the tears refusing to stop, his finger clenching around his phone.

Masaki heard the sobs from the other side, and just like in the past, when he heard this kind of voice from him, his heart crushed painfully: “Sho-chan? What’s wrong?”

“…”

“Sho-chan?! Where are you?” Asked Aiba, his heart skipping a beat at each sobs.

“The bar near…the library…”

And Masaki arrived quickly. The rain didn’t stop and they were both completely wet when they entered Aiba’s apartment, the latter forgot about bringing an umbrella in his rush. On the sofa, Aiba brought towels and dry one shaking Sho.

“She’s a whore” Sho cried against Aiba’s shoulders, his fingers gripping the tallest one’s t-shirt. Masaki stopped his ministrations and hugged his friend; he had never seen Sho in this state.

“I’ll give you some warm clothes and make you some coffee then you’ll tell me everything, okay Sho-chan?” Said Masaki, stroking softly Sho’s back.

While they both were changing their clothes, Aiba turned his back, his cheeks burning as he saw Sho’s bare chest.

“Thanks…” Said Sho, taking the warm cup of coffee in his hands. “Sorry to bother you.”

“Don’t be silly, you don’t bother me Sho-chan. Never!” Masaki smiled. Then he made a serious face: “So, what happened?”

After a few seconds of hesitation, Sho told everything. How he had spend almost eight years with Anna. How much he loved her. The wonderful feelings he had when Nyako was born. And unfortunately, he told about the day he discovered the empty house, with nothing left except a note explaining that her career was more important, and that it was better if he forgot everything about her.

“She didn’t write anything about Nyako…”He cried softly.

“Nyako-chan doesn’t miss her?” Asked Masaki, bringing closer Sho until their knees touched. Sho shook his head slowly: “She was barely one when Anna left, she doesn’t remember her.”

“What will you do, now?”

“I…I don’t know.” He rested his forehead on Masaki’s shoulder. “I’m so tired. I’m fed up! Always worrying about that stupid woman who doesn’t even care about us! I…loved her, you know? I loved…her” The last word was more a cry than a word and went with a soft punch against Masaki’s chest. Aiba wrapped his arms around Sho’s shoulders and rocked him tenderly.

“I know Sho-chan, I know. You always deeply loved the girls you dated.” He said a bit bitterly. “But just like before, I’ll tell you this: she doesn’t deserve you, and she doesn’t deserve Nyako-chan either.”

Sho laughed between his tears: “You always said that. When will I meet the girl who deserves me then?”

“Maybe it’s not a girl…” Masaki bit his lips and cursed himself. He could feel Sho tenses in his arms; nevertheless the latter didn’t seem to move. And Aiba decided to try his luck. Slowly he broke their embrace, lifted Sho’s head with a slender finger under the other’s chin and planted his gaze on Sho’s eyes.

“A…Aib…” Started Sho, but the lips pressed against his cut him short. Masaki held his breathe when he broke their chaste kiss. Seeing that Sho was frozen, he put a shaking hand on the other’s cheek.

“I…love you, Sho-chan. I love you since the first time we met.” He said, as if it would explain his behavior. “But I was afraid…you were always with a new girl, and I didn’t want to lose our friendship.” Masaki cupped Sho’s head: “You’re important to me. Please…don’t resist…” He almost begged in a whisper as he brought their faces closer and kissed Sho again.

At first, Sho was too stunned to move or even think. But then he felt Masaki’s tongue against his lips, and a hand sliding on his back, bringing him closer the taller man. Slowly Sho closed his eyes and parted his lips as he surrounded Aiba’s neck with his arms, pulling him even closer. Masaki slid his tongue into the moist cavity and finally met her twin. It was slow, gentle but above all it felt good. Aiba used his weight pushing Sho on the sofa, without breaking the kiss. He stroked Sho’s right arm softly, sending chills all over the body under him. Aiba broke the kiss and pecked Sho’s lips a few more times.

“Aiba…chan…I never…You’re the first I…” Sho said out of breath and a bit confused.

“Don’t worry Sho-chan. I’ll take care of everything.” Whispered Aiba as he kissed the corner of Sho’s lips. Sho simply nodded, biting his lips and closing his eyes again as he felt his heart beating faster.

Rapidly their kisses were greedier and their caresses more demanding. Masaki stood up from the couch, pulling Sho with him, their lips always stuck together. He led them until the bedroom, stumbling over the carpet or bumping into the wall.

“Don’t leave me…” Begged Sho into Aiba’s ear, his hold around the taller man’s neck tightening as he surrounded Aiba’s waist with his legs.

*****

When he woke up the next morning, Sho was surprised to feel a weight on his chest. Scraps of the last night came in his mind as he passed a hand on his tired face. He remembered the touches, the kisses, their sounds. Aiba’s voice was still echoing in his ears when he said he loved him. He could hear his own voice screaming ‘I love you Masaki’ when they were one. Sho felt his cheeks burning as he remembered. Slowly he pushed away the arm resting on his bare chest and winced with pain as he stood up, a hand resting on his back.

He shouldn’t have done it. He was a father for God’s sake! But being loved just because he was himself, not because he was a ‘sexy teacher’ or a ‘cute single father’, just being loved felt so good after all these years. And if he said Masaki he loved him, then he meant it, even if he didn’t realize it before. But it was too much complicated. He was a father, a respected teacher and his mother…what would she think about that? You can’t raise a child with two fathers; it goes against accepted standards of behavior!

“Humm…Love you…Sho-chan…” Said Masaki in his sleep and it gave Sho’s a start. But seeing this wonderful smile, Sho couldn’t help and smiled himself. “Love you too…”

No. It was wrong, and he should leave this place before he lost his common sense. Sho grabbed his clothes on the ground and got dress quickly-as quickly as he could with this pain on his back. Before leaving he kissed Masaki’s forehead and let a note on the bedside table.

‘I’m sorry. I must think about Nyako above all.

I love you

Sho’
