Conceptart.org's weekly character design contests sound like they'd be a lot of fun, but idk if I can meet the deadlines each week. Like this Joan or Arc one, it's due tomorrow, and this is as far as I've gotten. It's ... not even vaguely "Joan of Arc"-y at all. x|

That site intimidates the hell out of me, but I need people to tell me what I'm doing wrong. xD

It is very intimidating and I dunno if the general behavior concerning newbies is to be cold to them (cause that scares me too). I don't want a specifically warm welcome, but I already know what I need to work on in a way. I mean, on some forums you are always told the same things : draw more from life and practice and do more studies and paint more and be less that style and more like this grandiose classic artist... I hate patronizing. I want art to be fun more than I want to fit in with that kind of crowd and it's fairly obvious that all artists have to work on their drawing from life skills and coloring skills and etc. I dunno, I'm rambling XP

The Monkeyslunch forums are rather nice, but they are still very small... So it can take a bit of time before getting some crits.

how is your experience on Conceptart.org so far?

I've never heard of Monkeyslunch before :0 ... *investigates*

lol, my experience thus far is nonexsistant, as my account was made a looong time ago for lurking, and I just found out posting under it is disabled from lack of use. ;___; And I missed the deadline to sumbit this one by a matter of hours anyway, so .. NEXT TIME. :D

Is it supposed to be like Joan of Arc? Because it reminds me more of Emma Peel. A definite Sixties vibe. I mean, totally cool.

Hah, yesss, I've been on kind of a 60s kick recently - it must be seeping in. She's at least a little more medieval in the finished version. ;D
