No. You are wrong.

A while back I linked to some guy's livejournal page where he speculated that Barack Obama might be the antichrist. I had a good chuckle, but I felt a little guilty since you can probably find any opinion on somebody's livejournal these days.

I am significantly more concerned about Newsweek's measured and even handed article entitled, Is Obama Read more... )

it's sad that being dean of any University's law school lends, on title alone, anyone a certain amount of expertise to the majority of idiots in this country. Inevitably, some schmo is saying "Hey, the dean of Liberty University's law school says that Obama could be the antichrist," even though anyone with a shred of intelligence will recognize that it doesn't take much to become the dean of LU's School of Law.

The detached objectivity is my favorite part of this. After all, he didn't say Obama was the antichrist. He just thinks that, like all issues, there are reasonable people on both sides of the question.

I think my favorite part is: "In the event that RaptureReady crashes during the apocalypse, anyone who needs an update will, with a simple Google search, be able to get one." Because, you know, when the apocalypse happens, first thing I'm going to do is run to my computer and check to make sure it's REALLY the apocalypse.

I saw this coming. McCain actually ran an ad called "The One" which was the nastiest ad I've ever seen. In it, it's heavily (but also almost invisibly to people unfamiliar with the Bible) implied that Obama is the anti-Christ. So blame politicians, blame McCain. I was furious when I saw it, but think it's a sign of things to come.

I remember that ad. I actually meant to ask your opinion on it. I thought it was pretty clearly an insidious appeal to the "Left Behind" wing of evangelicals. On the other hand, modern Christian apocalyptic myths are kind of a hobby so there was a chance that I was reading too much into it. I'm glad you think that interpretation was at least plausible.

Incidentally, I saw this letter from a company that makes timecard machines that scan your hand. The letter was made to reassure employees that their machine is neither giving nor checking for the mark of the beast. It was great, it had quotes from revalation and everything so they could point out that anyone who was worried could just use their left hand so it wouldn't count.
