WHAT a day. We must have filled out 7 or 8 accident reports at the daycare center today for children getting injured. One little girl went home with a black eye from being whapped in the face with a flying shoe, a lil' boy got bitten really bad, one kid scratched his cornea with sand, one lamb bit a hole through her lip when falling off a chair... I will never be fully able to explain how powerful a child can be. Such tiny little people can bring such enormous joy and comfort. I went back to work today a little depressed and kind of in a funk over my poor Auntie, but after a few hours of little ones swarming me, hugging me, and planting sticky kisses on my face, I was renewed. We had Auntie's funeral this morning. It was a smallish turnout because A.) she kind of kept to herself and B.) most of her close friends have already passed on. It was nice, though. Lovely and dignified. I know she approves. We buried her remains in Mount Auburn cemetery with her parents and brothers. I wasn't going to cry, but I kind of lost it ( Read more... )

We lost Auntie last night at around 10:30. She was 80. She had put up a damn good fight, but in the end she was in just too much pain to go on. Thank God, it is a relief. She's free now, and at peace. I'll miss her terribly, but I am just so grateful that she is now happy and out of her wretched pain. I love you, Auntie...
