Mr. Heinze passed away. I'm going to find my copy of Poe's stories and hear again.

FOR THE LOVE OF GOD, MONTRESSOR!!!!

Aw. I didn't know that.

You nabbed the best quote, but I'll never forget first period of the first day of high school, hearing:
"Jaaa...vee vill lern. Vee vill lern."

Me too, what was up with that first day? He was nothing like that any other day. I used to sit there imagining, if you were making a transcript of the class, how many dots you'd need to put in the ellipses to make an accurate representation of the length of his pauses. Oh, the depths of boredom. I wonder if he was actually a good teacher back in the day.

"Blaaamontilllllaaaddoooo?!?!"

God rest his soul, in any case.

Yea, that first day was weird, and I was so gullible that for a few hours I thought he WAS German...then I realized it was just a show.

And, yes, our class was completely boring. The only thing I remember was, well, the quotes above and a few poems. Dad said he was great back in the day and was really bummed at my unenthusiastic attitude toward his class.

Oh, and Dad also has a great story about using Mr. Krupa to fool Mr. Heinze (who was principal then?) when they were skipping school. Dad, Jim, and Earl used to go to school, stay long enough for attendance to be reported, then leave after first period. (The scheme worked well until they ran into my Grandpa in the store.) One time, they were caught in the hall after 2nd period started and Mr. Krupa popped out of his office. Dad just started chatting him up about whatever they were covering in class, they walked with him right past Mr. Heinze, who assumed they were with Krupa, and kept on walking right out of the school! See, as Mom put it, Jim and Earl couldn't have gotten away with half the stuff they did in high school without Dad. He was the brains in the operation!
