Garden update

Greetings all...I'm a horrible one to remember to post anymore, but I have been doing the whole garden thing. Also, our farmer's market is back and I'm so excited to be eating local veggies! We decided NOT to do the CSA because I like to wander through all the vendors at the market and pick depending on what we need and want each week. It's not ( Read more... )

Definitely check craigslist for a freezer! Despite how creepy cl can get, people selling appliances are usually pretty decent. That's where I got my kitchenaid mixer.

My peas came up the day after I planted them! They're doing well, the squash is looking decent, cucmbers are coming up, and then there's the epic fail that is my carrot/lettuce section. The carrots have not come up at all, not one tiny green speck. The lettuce came up, but it is stuck at two little leaves, each smaller than my pinky nails.

Dave bought tomato plants already started and the one has flowers. Honestly, I'll be thrilled with tomatoes and cucumbers, and peas and zucchini will be a bonus. I just really really really hope the cucumbers do well.

I have little faith in my carrots, but we're going to keep going with them...they are the one thing Ilona REALLY wanted to plant. Our soil is definitely sandy, so that may help. I need to thin the lettuce beds this weekend.

The big board thing is from an Art Center float entry in the 4th of July parade about 9 years ago. I think it was supposed to be an imitation of Klee' Not sure, though. It adds a little flair to the garden, though. It's really there because I ran out of fence with only about foot to go and I was NOT buying more fencing just for that. As long as Finn doesn't infiltrate it, I'll be set...she figured out how to get into the other garden on the same day I let her eat one of the green onions. Now she runs to that garden saying "onion! onion!" and tries to get in. Sheesh.
