Is I was just thinking the opposite thing yesterday. I just finished up the dark tower a few weeks ago, and then I picked up everything's eventual. I found that I really didn't get the kind of enjoyment out of everything's eventual that I had hoped I would. It seems to me that, when King writes a short story, instead of just making a lighter story (which he does), he also seems to leave out a great deal of the story. While there were some stories in the book that I absolutely loved (1408 especially. that's a great example of what you're talking about. Every line in that story kept me interested in what was happening), but most of them seemed to be ending right when I was really starting to get drawn into them (the man in the black suit, all that you love will be carried away, everything's eventual). Perhaps King has managed to capture me with his normal writing style to such an extent that it's hard for me to accept his style of short stories.
