which is more disturbing, that the NA is against prop 8, that GLBT activists used the "N Word", or that African Americans in CA largely supported prop 8?
Back before SFGate blocked me from commenting and deleted all my posts, I found myself in frequent agreement with that "Bay Area National Anarchist" guy. Though I admit I tend to go through phases with that sort of thing, and I tend to have an overarching suspicion of all -isms.
That said, anyone openly endorsing Prop. 8 where I live and work would be I think in some danger of physical injury. So much for "tolerance."
Many queers refused to fall into the trap of blaming a racial minority for the passage of Prop. 8, just as many African Americans voted against Prop. 8. Samuel L. Jackson was always cool in my book but now he's uber cool to me! Prop. 8 would never have passed unless people of all racial backgrounds voted for it. But all kinds of people voted against it too, just not enough of them. It's a simple fact, these communities are connected. Ask any number of my friends who are Queer AND African American, another minority or any combination thereof. They don't have the luxury of dispelling homophobia without racism or the other way around. Anyhow, there have also been allies that don't belong to any of these groups and yet they believe in equality. I'm guessing you already knew all this and I'm probably preaching to the choir but I really think the press that emphasizes the numbers of African Americans that voted for Prop. 8 are distorting and sensationalizing the story.
