Will Obama Use ‘Localism’ to Crush Rush?

Barack Obama has said he won’t seek to reinstate the so-called Fairness Doctrine requiring broadcasters over the public airwaves to give equal time to opposing political views.
But he could instead mount a "far more dangerous attack" on free ( Read more... )

yah Obama is trying to curtail free speech and crush rush.

Please. The American Thinker is such a right-wing geyser it'll do anything to prevent people from concerning themselves with the real issues at hand, like trying to save our doomed economy built by the very conservatives preventing the public from realizing their immense failures.

blah blah blah.
i work in radio, and to think that the already very liberal biased industry will lose all conservative speech is scary.
whatever.

the article doesn't even mention anything about obama's plan's to "curtail conservative speech' it simply mentions "“localism,” and it requires radio and TV stations to serve the interests of their local community - by covering local issues and providing an outlet for local voices - as a condition of keeping their licenses."

... and then it makes some blind assumption that obama's going to redefine that clause to make it so that no conservative speech is allowed.

sounds like a giant red herring to me. making people like you scared for no reason. don't just believe everything you read. you're job is fine. you're industry is going to be fine. well, i mean, assuming that the economy survives enough to allow the advertising dollars to still pay your bills, but hey, i guess that saving conservative radio is more important then paying the bills.

I'm in Media Law & Ethics right now and am doing my term paper on the FCC. What your article fails to mention is that only once has a broadcaster ever lost their license. Viacom didn't lose any licenses after Janet Jackson's super bowl titty + every single day that Howard Stern was fined + Opie and Anthony going all the time; they were fined 3 mill and their slate was whiped clean (based on what 'could have happened' they got off easy). This article looks to me, in my semi-learned opinion, to be a crock of monolithic horseshit. I wouldn't worry too much if I were you. O'Reilly, Hannity and friends will all be free to start all the shit they always have ( ... )

To disregard the opinions of those involved in higher education is silly. If the most intelligent people in our nation are 'liberal biased', does being conservative acknowledge intellectual inferiority? Last I checked, getting a degree and learning things is a positive development.

Either way, it's a term paper. I've done the research myself, using the FCC as my principle resource. Being at a 'liberal biased college' has nothing to do with the facts.

The conservative movement operates based on manipulating fear. You're displaying the fear they manipulate. The facts say you have no reason to be fearful whatsoever.
