I think it felt like two b-plots cobbled together without an a-plot. Which is a shame, because I really think the Dean and Ben and Lisa stuff deserved better. It's definitely my least favourite episode so far, and I've LOVED everything else. :P

You know, that is a really smart observation. You're completely right, neither plot was given enough weight and it made the whole thing feel meaningless. I really think isolated, the Ben/Dean/Lisa stuff was on the right track. There were some really nice moments there with Dean getting confronted with the fact that he is really affecting these two and that they really love him.
The execution made it feel unimportant and tacked on. It was just all very messy, more like something the writers felt they NEEDED to deal with rather than WANTED to.
I think lexhibition put it really succinctly by saying it was like two b-plots without an a-plot. I agree, those issues needed to be dealt with, but it was presented to us like that plot was a chore, rather than giving it any weight or substance.
