I should be hibernating

But today was, by northern-Utah-in-early-February standards, quite springlike. As in, it was sunny and most of the snow around had melted except that which is in the shade all day. Spring is about mud here. And then it's about flowers, such as crocuus and tree popcornToday I got to take a guided tour of the University of Utah hospital for the “ ( Read more... )

Really-unless they've moved the cafeteria, I can imagine your route, but I had no idea the morgue was along it.

Our January was far milder than last year's, but only at night; the average high was lower than historical means, but the lows were toasty-toasty, courtesy of the five solid miles of stratus clouds buffering us from the vastness of outer space. I saw Mars on Monday, for the first time since it began to appear in the evening sky again, which implies that I haven't seen the night sky properly in about four months.

They have indeed moved the cafeteria. It's now in the north end of the hospital complex, in one of the two new bits they've built since you left town. The morgue is behind one of the many sets of big swingy doors that line the west side of that old-cafeteria corridor, near the loading dock.

Did they move the Exceptional Children's Art Contest along with it? It just wouldn't be the same if patrons couldn't enjoy the works of such timeless artists as BEИ and KΣ.

I have not seen the Art around. Work is still going on around the hospital, so maybe they've forgotten to unmothball it.

Last year we had a pleasant warm spell for a couple of weeks in February or early March. Then it snowed and turned cold again all through April. I've noticed that seems to be a Utah pattern - we get a hint of warm weather for a couple of weeks then cold again during February/March/April until real spring comes, and the reverse during September/October/November. I'm always surprised that other people don't see that pattern and expect the warm spell that started in February continue to summer.

Clearly it's wishful thinking.

It's pleasant to have a few day/weeks reprieve through all the snow. We should enjoy it while it's here, as you clearly are.

I didn't think you were one of the people that thought true spring would start in February. I was just remembering a young grocery store bagger that complained about the snow coming back after a similar warm spell in February.

I'm just wishing true spring will start in March instead of waiting until May. Here's to wishful thinking. :-)

Pardon, I didn't take it that way - I would snicker at anyone who has lived in Utah for more than two years and doesn't know about the March/April Wallop.

March doesn't start true spring, for sure, but on the non-blizzard days it's warm enough to be getting on with. Or at least I get thinking so by the time it rolls around.
