Where did this come from?!?!

I went to get a haircut this morning and on the radio-music-machine they had tuned a station playing that new stuff the kids are listening to today. I was jaw-droppingly surprised at it - in a very positive way. The music is overproduced, AutoTuned, and all - but somewhere in there it turned into stuff I really like. Hmm. Not sure what stations you listen to, but yes there is some synth and new-waveish stuff invading the radio, I don't listen to much main-streamy stuff, mostly Sirius Alt Nation and Emusic... It always seemed to me that music comes in 20-30 year cycles. I've heard people call it the older sister effect. Boys grow up listening to the music that their older sisters play, then when they get old enough they start making that kind of music themselves...

(An example of this was in the 90's, we had lots of Psychedelic revival bands popping up like Neutral Milk Hotel and Apples in Stereo...)

I am embarrassed to admit that I'm not very familiar with modern music delivery methods; all I've done online with it (since the fall of the old pirate version of Napster) is buy a handful of downloads from Amazon.

And indeed, I hadn't heard the "older sister" term, but I've observed that in action. I've been expecting some kind of 80s revival for a while now.
