i want to buy a fish that will watch me do my homework in my room.
but i don't really know how to take care of fish, but i'm sure it's not that difficult.
aren't i supposed to have a tank of water sitting around for like a day before i put the fish in?
i don't want to get my fish and kill it within the first 24 hours.
help please?

don't use distilled water because it has some of compounds or something removed
and check what kind of fish you'll get because depending on the fish, the water temperature must be at a certain range
get a tank that has a wide enough top so oxygen can circulate in the water, and make sure the tank isn't too deep or else oxygen won't reach the bottom
if you use a filter you don't have to clean the tank as much. make sure the filter doesnt create too much water current (or the fish will have a hard time swimming) or one that sucks in too much water (or the fish will get sucked in too)
and don't put it too close to sunlight or else algae will start forming really fast (more light = more photosynthesis)
if you want to go overboard you can buy those water tests so make sure the water has the right amount of acidity, ammonia, nitrates, etc.
and this comes from someone who doesn't own any fish lol

i wasn't thinking of anything that complicated actually. in fact i wasn't even planning on getting my fish a filter.
i was just going to get those really simple small tanks and have like two fish in there.
and if they die... well i'll flush them down the toilet and get a new one.
want to help me name my fish?

when i was in grade 10 or 11, serena and i discussed how i was going to get 2 goldfish.
and due to the finding nemo craze
i decided to name one nemo and the other omen (nemo spelt backwards).
but you can name the fish anything you want

then release the fishies and the water so that the fishy doesn't get a shock when it enters the system
whenever you change the water in the tank/bowl, you should keep your fish separate in some of the old water, clean out the dirty water, then do the same thing as when you first got the fish.
