Am very tempted to try running through a thick hedge, just to see if it can be done. Someone would probably get a bit annoyed at me for hurting their landscaping, though, so I probably shouldn't. Plus, I'm sure I'd end up with lots of scratches and leaves in my hair. Still, I really want to know just how hard it would be.

In other news, I fiinished ( Read more... )

Oh, I didn't even think about going under it. There are usually gaps, aren't there? Hmm...

It does kind of depend on what kind of hedge... I've pushed my way through several and let me tell you... it isn't running, it's like wading through water, except scratchy and potentially eye-poking. And unlike water, you can actually get stuck LOL. Thorns... thorns hurt... em... if you're allergic to it, or it happens to be infested with poison ivy you'll remember it for a lot longer :)

Oooh, poison ivy or an allergy. That could be interesting.

(Erm, I should say that, yes, I'm thinking about torturing a character.)

Ditto what mmuenzler said. There was a swamp a stone's throw away from my summer camp (private camp, not camp camp) growing up, and not far beyond that was a bramble bush and hedge. I used to go wandering through there to get to a friend's house and to come home with frogs in my pockets.

On the flipside, I had to dive in an awful wildgrown hedge recently (ETA: or rather, last summer). It was about ten feet wide and I have no idea how wide, full of thorns and delicious raspberries (which tend to grow either loose through other vegetation, or thick as you can get) to rescue my dog (munching happily at the raspberries).

The thick stuff, not so much fun or fast to get through -- you'll bounce off if you run into it, and never mind all the cuts and scrapes. The loose stuff, you'll get tangled in it no matter what you do, and if you're not careful, you'll trip and fall... and hang upside down with your face inches from the moss because the brambles rescued you (how kind of them) after stabbing you a billion times.

Yikes! That does sound painful. So, it's probably possible, but definitely not advised.

I once tried to run through a thick hedge. Actually, I just tried to walk through it. Couldn't.

Did you try really, really hard? What if you had people with swords chasing you??? :-)
