Hard to believe, but some distant corners of the internet still have not heard that my father died. On Tuesday July 6th 2010, he blew himself away after a three hour standoff with a SWAT team. Those of us dad left behind are grateful he didn’t take anyone with him. However, I may laugh ( Read more... )

Everyone is doing a wonderful job of helping me roll the credits on the bad movie of my past. Thank you!

I'm struck in reading this how clear-headed, strong and lucid you sound in contrast to everyone and everything around you.

Including your father.

I guess sometimes the best thing we can say is that we didn't come through unaffected but we came through clean.

You did, you know? It's clear in reading this that you're as distant as the desert you describe here from all of it, and that's a good thing.

Loves.

Yeah, I have my scars, but they're an honest history.

Thank you for giving me so much credit. :)

I'm glad you are home, and that the trip wasn't totally awful.

Wow. I'm sorry. Death is never a barrel of laughs, this certainly no more so than most. But I find myself wondering: that bad movie people keep joking about, is it a farce? A thriller?

My wife got to be the savior/truth teller/pariah in her family. It's a lousy job, but I'm told it makes packing up and moving cross-country a lot easier.

And... Does it HAVE to be the sparkly, Mormon vampires?

It was a bad WESTERN, of course! Complete with shoot-outs, stand-offs, and colorful language delivered in exaggerated drawls.

But yeah, exile for leaving home makes for a sweeter 'ever after'.

Ah. Of course. And a bad western can, I guess, be kind of fun-unless you're living it. Then it becomes Sam Sheppard and not so fun at all, I'd imagine.

My wife rarely regrets moving out here-and then only because it's a foggy summer (like this one) or a warm winter.
