Hard to believe, but some distant corners of the internet still have not heard that my father died. On Tuesday July 6th 2010, he blew himself away after a three hour standoff with a SWAT team. Those of us dad left behind are grateful he didn’t take anyone with him. However, I may laugh ( Read more... )

Death is sometimes billed as a release: from a life-ending illness that features pain, from a prison, both literal and figurative, or from hell on Earth, self-inflicted or brought by others. The same could be said for those who surround the deceased, for their demise may allow both healing and moving on. As you observed, for you, your father was gone a long time ago, and this finale was, in truth, just the denouement of play who's action ended many scenes and hours ago ( ... )

Thanks for sharing this with us. I am so so pleased that you found your way away from your early life and into the one where I get to know you and enjoy your friendship.

Just like the bad movie line I am sure you've been asked if you have read "The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo" and the other books in the series. While you are much more open and loving and fun than her much of what you said here made me think of Lisbeth Salander. Actually it might be too close to you for you to actually enjoy the books.

Anyway, hugs to you and yours. Glad you got to be in your beloved desert and glad you are home safe and surrounded by love.

Aha! I bought that very book during my layover in Chicago on my way back from AZ. I like Lisbeth a lot, in fact.

I'm glad I made it here, too. The company is so much pleasanter.

*hugs* I'm glad I read this and I'm glad you felt able to share it with your online friends. I may need it when the time comes to bury my own biological father. It's a long story, but in a way, I've already grieved my dad too, and his actual death may end up a sad formality for me as well.

*more hugs*

The listening is always what makes room for sharing. My friends have given me a lot of room. :)

*hug* It'll be a privilege to be there for you during that sad formality.

The adage ‘the best revenge is living well’ couldn’t be truer.

Amen, Sister. And I applaud you for not sinking to the level of those around you. I understand the longing for the climate you grew up in, even though I grew up in the meteorologically-crazy Midwest, and I'm glad your time spent in the desert refreshed and renewed you.

Indeed! Even if the roots are gnarled, it can be useful to visit them occasionally. Thanks!
