When you posted about his death, I didn't have much backstory. Since then, I've kind of been kicking myself about whether my condolences were the wrong sort of thing to send.

In any case, I hope this proves to be an opportunity to cut away the bad and cultivate the good within those bits of your family that you can. It sounds like you've earned some peace.

I understand. I've made no secret of my relationship with my dad, but I also don't talk about it as often as you might expect. That's not due to avoidance, but rather because most of it is so far behind me already.

It helps that everyone who knows me best - my family of choice, if you will - has been so kind. Even before dad died.

Thanks you.

I agree with Haddayr. I'm sorry you had to deal with all of it. I'm glad you got to listen to mourning doves and to smell the fragrance of desert plants, but the rest of it is just so hideous. I don't know you really, but I know that the things people said to or about you are a load of bullshit. And I know that it sucks to have to process emotions and thoughts around death even if you aren't necessarily full of grief. Sometimes especially if you aren't. So. In conclusion: bleh.

Bleh, indeed. I never forget that it could be so much worse, though. :)

Thanks!
