We've been reading the Harper Hall books to N., so Pern is on my brain. Absolutely ignore everything after White Dragon. I pretend they don't even exist. Lalalalalalala. And I'm right there with you in looking for escapism.

Didn't AM's son pick up the authorship of some of the books after a while?

I think I read up until the one where the AI gets unearthed and guides them from vaguely medieval to programming in Pascal. Very Trekkish. The AI shuts itself down, Robinton dies, and that's the End of the Story as far as I'm concerned.

I'd read it and also, I just finished rereading the Pern books and now I'm rewatching BtVS and reading Buffy/Spike fanfic so I guess what I'm trying to say is yes I totally agree, foundational fandoms. <3
