oh man all of my oral surgeries can beat yours! haha the best one was when they had to remove the muscle between the lip and the gum with a laser. they gave me valium and vicodin, and then the laser machine broke, so i was laying there going in and out of consciousness as the doctor tried to fix it. he finally did ... and i got more drugs ( ... )

Well I got all 4 teeth pulled last year...and it wasn't that bad. I got some Tylenol with Codine and some Valium to calm my nerves and that was it. It didn't hurt that much...as long as I took the meds on time and I was off the meds in like a week and a half or so.

mmm codeine. i should ask my doctor for that as well as the vicodin- to compare and contrast their effects, in a purely medical perspective, of course. glad your surgery went smoothly!

Here is my story. vickystardust July 14 2006, 00:08:14 UTC
I got all 4 of my wisdom teeth surgically removed. They were severally impacted inside, an entire 180 degree turn and had not been able to come out, they were pushing against my other teeth inside my gum giving bad pain. The ones on the bottom were really bad, they were sitting right on top of the nerve line so when they removed them, they couldn’t do it without drilling them into little pieces first, then carefully removing them bit by bit without touching the nerve. But because they were so close to the nerve, it left me with a permanent side effect, my lower lip is slightly numb permanently ( ... )

mine are also very impacted and two of them are at a bad angle, almost lying sideways- but at 180 degrees? wow. you told me about the slight numbness before but now this explains it. my surgeon went over that today and described how it was rare and often temporary, but i'm so sorry your surgery had that long lasting effect. at least it wasn't worse though as i guess the threat of numbness can pretty much cover your entire lower mouth. and lmao waking up and not knowing where you are, that must have been terrifying for a few minutes. i found all these hilarious/scary post-op stories from people who went under, and some of them did some crazy stuff while regaining consciousness (fist fights, vomiting on the dentist, singing songs, etc.)

oh don't ever apologize for a lengthy comment- they are the best ones! i'm just glad you're so optimistic about all this. i admire your bravery :) *hugs*

I would go for the IV knockout, myself if I didn't have any wisdom teeth to be removed anyways. For all of my tooth removals, I had them knock me completely out there was no ifs, but about it.
I said knock me out completely and they did.
I slept peacefully for the whole time even when I was carried to the car I was half asleep.
It took me about a full night sleep before I was back to normal. Though I could not spit or I would draw up more blood.

i think i'll take the IV route too, i won't be totally out (if i was i'd have to be in a hospital, which is going too far i think) but hopefully i won't remember much, and he said i won't really know what's going on. glad your procedures went smoothly, thanks for the input :)

oh, what fucking bullshit! i had like four options on how to get high for mine. your doctor needs to spice it up and start offering more variety, goddammit. did you at least get a shitload of vicodin afterward to compensate for your lack of a stoned state of mind?

well, dentists are just paid sadists. one time i had a gum infection and without saying a word, the doctor stabbed me with one of his metal sticks to try to "drain" it. i bled a lot. needless to say, it didn't work. i think they get a little too excited with their practice every now and then.
