I tweaked one of the stories I wrote earlier -- added a scene from another story that fit there better, altered a few lines to bring it more in line with the ficton as it had developed, etc.

I liked the emotional themes of this a lot.

Thank you for your comments; this is a story I'd wanted to write and hadn't really realized was in me until it was done.

And I, too, am curious what the other thing was. :)

I started this story with the last scene, and then kept writing more and more backstory to set up how they were getting there from here. ^_^
As for the other thing -- it's something Rodney's less willing to reveal than everything he's pulled out and offered up to his teammates so far, which by process of elimination should suggest a direction; I do intend to write that story one of these days.

Okay. Okay.
Loved the themes - story-telling as structure to inform actual family-history; secrets lying in the blood to spring up and harm/save the unwitting individual; those who love you love you as you are, and will not stop simply because of your ancestral secrets.
But I want Teyla to have Rodney's baby, and then maybe Ronan's and John's. I want them to be a family. I want to know the other thing.
AIIGH!

... I keep meaning to get around to writing the expansion of "Miko and the Bears" (where, among other things, Miko meets some of the family the sensei and his wife had come to Chateau Lake Louise to spend time with), but none of the challenges have inspired me to get more done on it yet. ;_;
//I want to know the other thing.//I want to write that story, too; of course, given that it's thematically similar enough that I felt the need for Rodney to think about it even though I was leaving it as a teaser, I think by this point I' ( ... )

This started when I was vaguely thinking about exactly how creepy the traditional male selkie story is, and then it crossed my mind how disgusted Rodney would be by those abilities, and so...
//Now, what the frilly heck is "the other thing" that Rodney isn't telling them about?//
Well, that's another story -- but it's part of the reason Rodney's family history in re Leesy is on the more ghastly end of the spectrum.

Carson's "All sea stories are sad", and Rodney setting up "The Last Unicorn", and Ronan's harts and hinds and everyone just knowing these different tales that they read or heard or were told and sharing them with each other, building a new collective.
I think I'd read part of this before, but I do love it.
Going to find the other ones now!

I think, in part, this was inspired by the Heptameron, the way that all the stories in the end feed into and around the story Marguerite de Navarre couldn't tell.
And I'm glad you liked Ronon and the harts -- that's one of the Things That Went In Because It Amuses Sophonisba. Greatly. ^_^
Most of my work is listed in my memories, one way or another.
