pesto people

i made some pretty awesome pesto tonight, garlic scape pesto, to be precise. have you ever had garlic scapes? i hadn't until tonight. i'd sampled a scape pesto at the farmer's market a while back, and was planning to saute them (because i'd heard that's what you do with scapes and i'd just bought them because i think they're pretty - haha, yes, you ( Read more... )

Other things I've put in pesto include:
lemon - juice & rind
orange - juice & rind
romano
pignolis
balsamic
dijon mustard
spinach
wakame seaweed

I don't think I've ever tried lime juice. I experiment again and again with pesto, but I've never been completely satisfied. There's some undefinable tangy quality I'm always looking for but don't quite get. I guess perfection may not be an attainable goal, but its fun to pursue.

next time, try the lime (and i think the sea salt was a big help - but i'm a sucker for sea salt). really, it's the right amount of zing without too much sour (like lemon).

I just made dinner with my roommates; lime was exactly what I needed with my pesto! Thanks so much for giving me the idea.

totally has nothing to do with pesto, but i love this pic! your haircut looks fabulous! i can't decide if it's hot or gorgeous...so i'm going with a bit of both. :)
