So James and Ed found my journal, which is going to lead me to lock it up from now (or at least everytime I mention them.) Because they are losers (and also university always seems to get dull late afternoon) they started to read it all starting from the very beginning. James even has a file on his computer where he has cut and posted the most ( Read more... )

I get the impression that the last entry was only there for me and Ed to read, and not a genuine journal of your thoughts and ideas. If that's true, then you expect us to be reading this too. In which case, you're basically telling us that you're going to lie to us ( ... )

ha, i think i was supposed to lock this one too, but didn't, because i am crap.

i'm going to go talk to you now, except i am half naked, so i am going to put some clothes on and then go and talk to you

and nothing happened last night, except that you denied throwing up three times, which none of us believed. that was it really. oh ed fell asleep in my bed, and i didn't bother kicking him out because i was too lazy, but he had to wake up at nine to go sailing, which made me angry because that meant i had to wake up at nine too. grr!

I remember that people found my old journal at the end of freshmen year. I have to wonder about people who bother to use the search option to find their "friends" online and blatantly invade their privacy, which is basically what I consider anyone who ends up reading someone's online journal when they weren't given the link. It's very sneaky.

And someone actually started a file on you? That's not creepy at all.

You equate '[using] the search option' (of some unspecified utility) and 'reading someone's online journal' (I will ignore 'when they weren't given the link' for reasons below) with 'blatantly [invading people's] privacy ( ... )

James,

Did your mother ever dress you up in wooden clogs and yellow bowties?

These are friends of yours? Heh. While I don't think there's anything wrong with them finding and reading your unlocked entries (as they are completely public and you have to remember than anyone, from a professor to a boyfriend to a creepy inmate in Georgia, has the ability and right to read them), I do think it's immature and not very nice of James to cut and paste "embarrassing" lines into a file on his computer. I'll give him the benefit of the doubt and assume it was just teasing instead of genuine antipathy, but if that's the case, he should have apologized when he realized it bothered you, and should certainly not have started attacking your friends in your journal ( ... )

OK, let's slow down.

First of all, I'm glad (read: I hope) we're now all in agreement about the 'unlocked entries' issue, and that it is now off the table. With reference to most of the subsequent replies, I was defending a viewpoint that I happen to be a little passionate about.

Next, the file was created with Sarah in the room. It doesn't actually bother her.

I asked at the start of my comment, "When did this turn into an immature insult-slinging battle?" Perhaps my comment was an over-reaction. I was annoyed that my time and effort in arguing against an annoyingly widespread point of view had resulted in a one-line sardonic question. But I believe I was justified in slinging crass insults around as soon as they were thrown at me.

As far as the insult itself, the point is very much not that she will not care about the insult. If she doesn't care, it perhaps will not even be perceived as an insult. Also, obviously the insult is going to be made from my point of view and not hers - that's what makes it insulting.

I do! Yay, contractions! Also, congrats on catching my typo. I knew you would! You are truly the manMy sense of irony is fully intact, thanks! I simply detected, in your earlier posts, the same thing you accuse me of doing -- down-talking, and deliberately avoiding contractions and therefore sounding oddly formal in an attempt to... intellectually bully, maybe, whoever you're talking to. I fully admit I often do this myself when arguing with strangers on the Internet, but it's still not cool ( ... )

As a creepy inmate in Georgia, I take offense.
