Late sunday night we learned that, even though TELUS CEO Darren Entwhisle publically stated he has no further intention of bargaining with our union after we turned down his piece of sh... er... 'generous offer,' bargaining between the union and some TELUS executives took place, and there is a revised offer being put forth ( Read more... )

I've been involved in a bitter labour dispute between my employer, TELUS, and the union with which I am a part of for over 3 months now.

We recently were offered a tentative agreement, which the union rejected by democratic vote 50.3% to 49.7%

Apparently, over the weekend, the company 'tweaked' their offer a bit and now we're being ordered by the government to vote on it again.

I wonder what Fontana'll do if this one's similar to the last and the union membership rejects it again? :)

Telus will continue to loose out on money. They'll have to show their quarterly report to the share holders eventually, and then there will be alot of pressure to appease the union. Or atleast I'd assume so.

I would say that Fontana thinks that because the previous vote was so damned close, that when the voting goes through on *this* offer it will break that 50% mark, and become a majority.

However, if in the event we turn it down *again,* I would not be surprised if he shrugs his shoulders, says 'I tried' and fucks off.

The optimist in me is hoping that there are enough changes in the deal to sway te a 'yes' vote, among a few hundred others. The optimist in me also is hoping that if we turn it down, Fontana goes back to TELUS and says 'All right, you guys, bend a little.'

Wishful thinking.

Judging by how pissed off you always seem to be towards Telus... why the hell wouldn't you have just gotten a job elsewhere in the first place?

Funny you should mention that:

I finished writing out applications and my most up-to-date resume earlier this week, and sent it out to a couple prospective employers.

As of right now, I still have not heard anything from them.

that's all well and good, but why didn't you just do that in the first place and avoid Telus altogether?

Up until the labour dispute began, I enjoyed working for the company. They were a great company to work for. Plus, with my education, my future would benefit the most if I worked for them.
