1) It's more expensive than Aveda? Wow. Though I have wavy hair that is a huge pain so I'll probably run out and buy some tomorrow. It sounds too good to pass up.

2) I never need to see Carrot Top and I REALLY never need to see him in such a state of undress. My eyes, they burn!

Yeah, I've been using the Smooth Infusion or Be Curly stuff for a while and they run about $18-22/bottle. It smells so good, but it was really drying my scalp out. The John Masters stuff I found was about $22/bottle, so about the same as Aveda. The Pureology stuff is $25 in salons, or you can find it online for a pretty good discount. My only complaint about the John Masters stuff was that I felt like I had to use a lot more than I usually would. But the Pureology is concentrated and it goes a really long way. It lathers, but in a totally different way. I've never used so little shampoo!

OH and that is the most terrifying Carrot Top picture I could find, but Lord there are some close seconds out there on Google. Let it be a comfort that the picture is just unfortunately cropped, and he's actually wearing pants. I did not, however, want to see how well he manscapes Down There.

Kiss My Face makes really nice paraban-free shampoo. I use it. It took me a while to get used to the lack of lather, and for a long time it felt like it wasn't getting my hair clean, but it was just that it wasn't sudsing like I was used to. I use the Whenever shampoo and conditioner sometimes (I think that's what it's called) and it smells DELICIOUS.

I think you can find it at Target, or at drugstore.com for cheaper.

I didn't know Kiss My Face made one! I'm testing out a bunch, one by one, so I'll be sure to add that to the list. Thanks! I know Burt's Bees makes one too that's supposed to be really nice too, and cheap!

I can't remember whether or not we've had the hair talk, but I'm a Lorraine Massey/Devachan devotee. Haven't used shampoo in over 5 years. And if I do say so myself, I smell AWESOME!

I think I remember you telling me that! Your hair is much more curl-tastic than mine is. Did it take long to get used to the no shampooing??

It was a very easy transition for me. I was happier immediately. But it took me a while to get used to the fact that I had to scrub my scalp with conditioner and rinse like shampoo before a second pass with the conditioner to get the best results. Just gotta loosen up all the dead skin cells and whatever crap you've picked up throughout the day. Now I'm at a point where I can go a day without rinsing pretty easily, but I had to rinse every day for a while.

What hair products are you using? I in no way have the curls you have but as I'm getting older my hair is getting more body. I'm having a hard time finding styling products that play that up. I'm really disappointed in the Aveda styling products.

I wonder if Ulta has any of the paraben-free shampoos?

I know that Burt's Bees has a sulfate and paraben free line (actually, all of theirs might be), and as my friend above said, so does Kiss My Face, and those are usually the drug store. I haven't tried them, but I've heard good things!

No luck with Aveda, huh? I've used Aveda styling stuff almost exclusively for several years. That and Bedhead, but geez that stuff is so perfumed. I start with Biosilk for extra conditioning, and I use the Hang Straight or the Be Curly, and the smoothing fluid. I finish up with the humectant or anti-humectant pomades. If I go curly, I wait till it's dry, then do the Curl Control. I swear, I have the full Aveda line in my bathroom. I usually need more pomade or smoothing fluid halfway during the day (ah, Seattle). When I chopped my hair off really short back in '01, I used Kiehl's Creme with Silk Groom. It just gave a little separation to my hair but wasn't sticky at all, just really soft and conditioned. What Aveda products are you using right now?
