Irk, Irk, Irk

You know it irks me a little when these companies I have been applying to re-post their job. I don't apply to jobs I don't think I can do well. Obviously these people thought they wouldn't give me a chance. So, instead of actually hiring me and having somebody already there doing the job well, they're going to look even further for somebody to meet ( Read more... )

Your cancer scares me a bit because I work in a bar and am unlucky enough to live in a city WITHOUT a smoking ban. I joke that I probably smoke 2-3 packs per day secondhand, but honestly I do worry that one day I will wake up with cancer.

Cigarettes kill for the same reason standing in a burning house inhaling the smoke there kills people. SMOKE INHALATION CAN KILL YOU and it doesn't matter what's burning.

I agree that I don't understand why folks are like "further testing is needed" and billions of dollars go towards this pointless "research".

*puts down crack pipe filled with blueberries*

Well damn, learn something new every day.

:)

Bummer that you've been feeling down. I know how demoralising it is to look for jobs and not get the calls. It must be more so when the places you applied to didn't hire in the first place.

Re: " I have every intention of asking why they still do testing on tobacco products when its obvious that smoking kills. In a nice way of course. " You could approach it in a "I'd like to be sure I have job security and that this role wouldn't be phased out given that there is a lot of research already out about how smoking is detrimental to health." It would make you seem more interested in the role than the fact that they are idiots for continuing to test something well known. Then again, would you *want* to work for said idiots for very long?

PS- I know it's out of the question but you could always check the cancer society here. They do a lot of research and even though we are a tiny nation we have been responsible for creating the new cervical cancer vaccine. Dare I mention the perks like government-mandated 4 weeks off a year paid holidays for all full time employees???

I'd move to another country no problem if it wasn't for a) My cats having to go into confinement for months to make sure they don't have rabies. I'd miss my fluffies b) Brett had a job.

I can get good jobs in Canada. Just not here. I keep trying to tell Brett that we'd be financially better off in Ottawa (he could make 80k/year, I could make 60/k. Instead we're in Kitchener where he can make 80k but I can only get 28k.

Well, this job would only be for 6 months anyway. It still would look good on a resume. i don't really have biology work outside of school. 7 years of school leaves little time for work.

Oh, have you gotten that coffee yet? I'm getting worried.

No, we checked yesterday and it hadn't come in. :( What day did you ship it again? 'Cause you know we've had a couple of short weeks so maybe that's delayed it??

Yah, I hear you on the confinement for the kitties. I put Freeway through it but wouldn't want to do it again. And more than one kitty would be hella-expensive. I figured it was a no but had to mention it ;)

Good luck with the job. Like you say, it would fit on the resume nicely.
