It's the way of things. iPods (and most mp3 players) are frail. Especially the way I've seen the majority of people handling them. Not saying you haven't looked after it, just sometimes these things happen.

Plus, look at it this way... you'll be getting a new fancy toy with a colour screen and video playback... looks fancier... could be in black...

I guess...but it's added expense I really don't need. Do you have the video ipod then? I'm trying to get opinions on how well it works/any problems before I get one...

What kind of treatment causes problems, do you know? Just the usual things of bashing it around, keeping it near magnetic sources, etc?

Well, people need to realise iPods contain hard drives. Just as with anything hard drive based you have to make sure you do not submit the unit to shocks, especially excessive shocks (ie, dropping it is liable to cause some serious shit, if it doesn't you've probably still damaged the drive). Magnets of course are really bad. Keeping your iPod in a serious case would also go a long way to protecting the unit.

From all accounts, the video iPod is awesome. Online reviews have been stellar. I would have purchased one, if I did not already have a Zen Sleek that I was perfectly happy with already.
