I am totally obsessed with techbargains.com. for days I was drooling over this refurbished eMachine (ugh, brand, I know but shut up it had cool stuff in it) and then suddenly my dad's like "hi, here's $250!" which is exactly how much it cost SO I GOT A NEW COMPUTER. I am going to play Sims 2 like a mother fuck. I shake with anticipation ( Read more... )

haha, ok- it's an eMachines T6216 AMD Athlon 64 3200+ with 512 megs DDR, 160 gig hard drive, a dual layer DVD RW, and an nVidia GeForce 6100. comes with Windows XP Home, and I'd rather have Pro, but for $250 I'm not complaining.

before you say anything, I am upgrading the RAM. I'm also getting a new power supply, because it comes with a 300W (wtf?).

so it's not high-end, but it's a dream machine compared to what I've got now. I am excited. :D

Actually, the only thing I really have to say is that that's pretty close to new prices for used parts.

Also, if it comes without the Windows disk, SEND IT BACK.

I donno, that's kind of a stretch, just the processor & hard drive would be around $200 w/ shipping. I figure I'm also paying for the convenience of not having to bang it all together myself. assuming it does what I want it to, I feel like I'm getting my (dad's) money's worth.

I don't expect they'll send me a Windows disk, but I'm not that worried about it. I can get XP Pro for like $10 at school.

I'm not a fan of pre-builts. they tend to use proprietary parts that make upgrading more difficult.

specs posted above, btw :)

Yeah, it's been a bitch upgrading mine, so far all I've done (internally) is the RAM and the power supply, then everything else I've done is just added on as peripherals rather than try to get something compatible for internal use.

yeah... I'm not really all that good at figuring out what's compatible with what, either. yay.
