The best weapon for zombies seems to be shotguns, but of course the AK-47 is the thing if you absolutely positively have to kill every motherfucker in the room. Thankfully Izmash came out with the Saiga-12, allowing the peanut butter of 12ga and the jelly of the AK-47 action to come together in one delicious PB&J of zombie slaughter.

according the Zombie Survival Guide (which I own) an M1 Carbine is the best firearm to use when battling zombies.

I still think .30 Carbine ammunition is too underpowered and too hard to find to make it that useful. And if you had to use a semi-auto shotgun, a SPAS-12 seems like it would be the best choice. There probably isn't one good-for-every-situation anti-zombi weapon. Except a chainsaw.
