Yes to all of this (particularly Rory needs to stop dying, because he's dying about as frequently as a Highlander immortal these days *headshake*).
I feel you're on to something with Amy's helplessness (and a lingering fear because of Rory's death in S5 would be a cool reason) but at the same time I'm not quite sure what you mean. Do you mean her inability to save him, or her general fear that he might die on her, or the fact that he's taking the lead during that sequence? Or all of it? I'm curious because I'm pretty critical of Moffat era, and, well, want to hear good critical observations about it :)
I need Rory to meet Capt. Jack Harkness like burning. Even if they only exchange two lines. Anyways, I'm sure there must be a reason for Rory's multiple deaths because Moffat is, in general, a very tight narrator, and he should probably be able to see that killing the same character every other episode is kind of stupid and redundant. Or maybe he's already using Rory's multiple deaths in this episode? Like, he's died so many times that Amy is freaking out? And she's just going to have continual hallucinations/fears about his death, even if he never dies again.
Ahahaha, I'm not even quite sure what I mean re: Amy. It's just... she's generally this really strong character, very gung-ho, very hard-headed. But during these scenes where Rory dies, she just becomes... useless. She unbecomes herself, if I make sense. And I understand that, yeah, love of her life dying before her eyes is traumatic but... they were more understandable in S5, but (for me) not in S6. For example, in 6.03, Amy gives up while providing CPR*. She's

oh crap, now i want to do an analysis of the dynamics of Amy-Rory vs Doctor-Tardis and whether they inhabit traditional roles as a married couple, remake them, or are something clearly different, and alkd;jf;asldfj i do not have enough theoretical backing to make any such analysis.

Why are all of your feelings all of my feelings? Oh my god.
This was my favourite ep this season, probably my favourite since the revival. Because it absolutely captures the essence of Doctor Who perfectly, it has that perfect balance of joy and sadness and funniness and ALL THE ANGST EVER, and my god Matt Smith could 'subtle' David Tennant right out of the park because HELLO AMAZING ACTING SKILLS. Every time he makes an expression it is just. Perfect.
I have to go collapse on my bed and sleep for 10 days now but before I go: that final image, of The Doctor dancing madly around the TARDIS while she basically steers herself, and steers him to wherever he needs to go next--THAT is what Doctor Who has always been about, and it's so beautiful. The madman and his box...
